Could probably set up a mouse button -> key 3rd party app, but that's not ideal.
Near the top, it'll say "[System] Controller={string-of-gibberish}", that's your currently selected control scheme. If the next line underneath that has the exact same numbers, then those are the ones you'll want to change. If not, then scroll down until you find it.
"Input04=1,37,1,28"
translates to
A Button = K key or Return key
The first number after the equal sign is the input method, 1 for keys, 2 for analog, 3 for buttons, 4 for dpads, then second is the value of whichever button/key whatever it is. The next two are the same, but a second set of controls. Set it to 0,0 to blank it out, or duplicate the first set (so like 1,37,1,37 to make them both the K key).
What you want to do here is add all of your extra mouse buttons in manually. Left click (MB1) is 3,0. Right click is 3,1. Middle click is 3,2. Back/Forward buttons would be 3,3 and 3,4. Or something similar, depending on your device. They'll show up really crazy in the config menu, but trust me they work. The only problem is I can't figure out a way to unbind the existing controls, so you'll still be confirming and canceling all over the place. However, your extra buttons should work just fine, as I've tested attacking and scanning in dungeons with my mouse.
For reference, the controls are as follows:
And on that note, if you change things while the game is open, you'll have to close and relaunch. It might overwrite your changes, too, so double check the file again.
If you hit an invisible wall - Camera goes nuts.
If you try to zoom out - Camera goes nuts.
If you want to adjust horizontally while moving - Camera goes the f**k nuts.
These are the worst controlls I've ever seen for keyboard + mouse in a port ... And jesus christ, I played the Resident Evil Remaster so eat this Neptunia ... And if you don't know wtf all those doohickies in the key-revamp mean (cause its irritating as ♥♥♥♥) then you're pretty well damned as a new player with trial and error for at least 2hrs.
For f**ks sake. Gotta go and buy a freaking Xbox-PC controller tomorow ... You've done f**ked it up, Neptunia ... congratz.
PS.: And seriously, intiutive ... look that word up please, cause if you call that ♥♥♥♥ intuitive then IDK under what rock you crawled forth. Gotta f**king study rocketscience to reconfigure keysettings for keyboard and mouse to work ... jesus ... I just want to play the damn game.
What do you mean by "goes nuts"? Like even when you're not holding down left click to move the camera? Are you set to "Keyboard" or "Mouse"? Standard mouse controls should always be active, but specifically setting it as your control scheme for everything is really wonky.
By goes nuts I mean: It just feels completly wrong what the camera does. When I try to zoom out, then I have to PERFECTLY move my mouse back in a straight line, while holding the LMB ... If I fail, then I will have to readjust both axis' all over again. Why the heck is it so hard to just set zooming to the mousewheel? That's what it's been there for for as long as 3D PC-Gaming existed! ... Even camera-autofollow would do the trick I guess ...
Then theres the standard keyboard and mouse layout for the game ... and man, here it goes totally berserk on you. So you move arround with W, A, S, D ... You rotate (rollercoaster) your camera with your mouse ... and now they thought it's a good idea to put the options key (usually "esc" in other games) on the key "K". Who the f**k came up with that brilliant Idea? Do you call this intuitive (k for "K"onfiguration lol)? And I can't even put that menu on "ESC", it won't let me.
So well, then I got into my first battle. I've seen on broadcasts, how people hit multiple enemies at once, by precisely placing that box ontop of two or more enemies. Well, good luck trying that with MY camera ... I feel lucky if I can even spot the enemy in less then 5 minutes of adjusting ...
I don't even know what to say anymore. Maybe it'll get better with the original 360 controller, idk. But atm. it just sucks.
I just checked out your BigBen brand controllers and found out they look quite cheapy and sold in the UK. Just go for brands like Logitech (which I use), Razer and etc.
Sadly, I couldn't end up binding anything to clicking the scroll wheel left and right, but now that I know click and drag works for camera movement (and the right button for fine aim control in battles), I don't really need the scroll wheel buttons.
And now that I've got scan and attack on the mouse, I never need to switch my right hand to the keyboard anymore. Yay!
I could probably work around the scroll wheel side clicking by installing the actual mouse software and manually binding it there, but whatever. Click and drag is probably going to be way better than side clicking the wheel anyway.
Thanks again for your help!
True, the camera does not like to go through objects, so it zooms in instead of clipping, but it would do that with a controller and on the original console games as well.
You should also be able to use the arrow keys to adjust your hitboxes in battle if your mouse really is that sensitive. Similarly, you can use the numpad to adjust the camera.
If you're still having problems, I'd suggest a DualShock 4 or Xbox One controller to use on your PC. I hate the 360's so-called "dpad" and refuse to acknowledge its existance.
Glad I could help. I looked into it for myself, but remembered this thread so I dumped my results here. Hopefully it will become unnecessary after a patch, but I'd rather they prioritize gamebreaking bugs first. Until then, at least we can rely on this.
So it's kind of poorly patched together like this at the moment. I think there's no other way but to get a controller for this. At least there seem to be a lot of controlleroptimised games coming out lately, so it won't be much of a waste of money.
About the scroll wheel: Yea it works, I don't know why I didn't realise it the first time. Probably I was standing with my back to a wall ingame and it just didn't do anything ... I don't know :/
Same goes for the targeting, it works with RMB and is actually pretty solid.
About the controller: Then it's probably the Xbox One controller for me, heard that the PS Controllers are a bit difficult to set up on Windows and after all, that game seems perfectly labeled for a xbox controller. But damn, that xbox one stuff is actually twice as expensive as the usual 360 controller o.O
Thanks for keeping cool btw. even tho I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ arround like an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in enrage-mode. Sorry for that.
Controls might have been reset to default, but the fix still works.
