Would this game be appealing to someone who doesn't care about fanservice?
I was thinking about buying this game to try the series as the whole people being consoles concept is really appealing to me but I did some more research about what the game is like and from what I have read the series is more about fanservice than anything else. This kind of explains why most of the reviews on steam talk about waifus and stuff now that I think of it.
I honestly am really clueless about what to do now considering that I don't care about fanservice.Does the game do anything else well enough for me to consider purchasing it?Thanks in advance!

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Yes, the game has barely any forced fanservice and mostly appeals to people who are into gaming culture AND anime at the same time. I personally hate fanservice and fanservice games, yet I love Neptunia, and if this doesn't say much, I don't know what does. The main appeal of the game is the girls and a bit of memes, so this is why some reviews you see have "Nep" in them somewhere, or have something related to waifus. However, you'll find barely no fanservice on the games besides optional pantyshots and some forced CGs, which overall lasts for one hour if added up, and the game as a whole is 30 hours with over 20 hours of VN dialogs. Combat is fun, but pretty simple, and overleveling may carry you anywhere if you wish to. Soundtrack is also pretty damn good, and the art style is also pretty moe, if this is your thing. And of course it's a parody with a light hearte story, some may like, some may hate, this is on you too.

Well I gotta trust you regarding fanservice.Just saying that you hate it means that that which you are saying is true.
I actually absolutely despise excessive fanservice too as that's a cheap way to sell games(Take visual novels for instance. The large majority of them are hentai novels). Also what's a CG?I don't think I ever heard that word before.
Also as a sidenote, without spoiling anything for me in case I do end up getting the game. Are the monster designs great?I just really have an obsession with monster designs and this is information I have to know

The Neptunia series is a parody of the gaming industry so the story doesn't really take itself serious (except Re;Birth2 and bits of Megadimension). Combat is decent at best with it being on par with most traditional turn-based JRPGs but nothing that's out of this world.

The main series doesn't really have that much fanservice compared to the spin-offs with Action Unleashed and the anime being the worst offenders which is where most of these perverted idiots you speak of started off from.

Don't take the Steam reviews seriously as most of the positive reviews are highly exaggerated and most of them are joke/waste of time material. Steam may also be flooded with perverted fanart and h-material but don't let that fool you of what the series is actually like.

I also don't know what CG exactly translates to, but it's simply a picture.

Monsters designs are... well. You'll be fighting the Pipes from Mario, literally Visual Novels, Hardcore Otakus, Game consoles, and a lot of monsters from other franchises. It's a parody game after all. You'll also find a lot of recycled enemies, just recollored.

And what Ztarman said is also true, don't take Steam reviews too seriously, this game isn't a 95/100. And stay away from the community if you want, since the Nep community is pretty bad as of late. Fanservice won't bother you, this I can say. There is a bit of it on the first 2 hours, but it tons down after it.

And for god sake, wait for a sale. This game will go 85% off soon enough.

So the spin-offs have lots of fanservice?I expected it to be the other way around.Main games having the most.Well I almost never take steam reviews seriously, especially when most of them are stupid jokes or people praising games.90% of the time they aren't reviews at all.
I actually haven't checked artwork and stuff on steam as I don't want to get spoiled or anything so I can't be the judge of that.At how much people mention the word waifu in reviews there must be a healthy bit of NSFW and fanservice stuff there though

I kind of only buy games during sales as of late as I need to save up money for some stuff.I wasn't going to pay 30 euros for a game I'm unsure I'll like or not anyways.
I kind of was expecting monster designs to be more interesting to be fair.I don't mind them, but I'm wondering how it's even possible to fight visual novels.I don't mind recycled enemies so It should be fine.
I tend not to get involved in the fanbase of a game unless I really love the game(s).I am pretty curious what makes them so bad as of late though.I kind of only saw people spamming nep nep like their lives depend on that.

I would only say about half of the spin-offs focus entirely on fanservice while the others are tame like the main series. Action Unleashed, Producing Perfection (which isn't on Steam) and Hyperdevotion Noire are fanservice trash while MegaTagmension, Superdimension Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls and Cyberdimension reduce fansevice to a minimal.

There's nothing wrong with praising a game but when most of the reviews are from individuals that just boot up the game and "idle" for hours to inflate their total playtime, don't even play the game past the starting chapters or have never beaten a single game in the series, is their 11/10 review really trustworthy? They also have a nasty habit of attacking those (personally as well) who have a negative opinion of the games or features within them. Positive reviews aren't safe which is why most stoop to the "waifu" nonsense now just to get it over with.

Well you said you hate fanservice and when the Neptunia fanbase nowadays only bring 120% fanservice to the table do you really expect anyone to care at this point? That's one of the reasons why most consumers avoid this series like the plague when the fanservice isn't really that high to begin with. That and the anime tropes when this series is just a parody about videogames.

So that half which is all about that fanservice doesn't have anything other than that going for it?Even though I haven't played the game Noire is interesting to me.Is Hyperdevotion Noire really just about that sweet fanservice?
Also if we still talked about reviews,I think that there are no worse reviews than the Undertale reviews on any game on steam. All positive reviews don't give any reasoning as to why the game is "amazing".This game's reviews are nothing compared to that.I didn't expect people not to play the game before staying afk to get lots of hours tbh.If they still want them titties I expected them to at least finish the game first.
I think that the game would have done better if they kept fanservice to an absolute minimum in all games.Come to think of it the characters don't really look like adults really and that on top of the ecchi scenes and stuff is offputting for a lot of people.I just hope that the whole console wars concept is well enough developed to be appealing to me.
The fact that the fanbase is a lot about fanservice just shows how much people love anime and hentai etc.I wouldn't be surprised if most people who wrote stupid reviews for the game only played the game because it has an anime artstyle and fanservice to suit their needs.
LazyNeppy Oct 29, 2017 @ 7:15am
Just one thing since you guys are talking about Steam reviews: Yes, there are a lot of people who only let the games on to inflate the time and then give a review like "Nep Nep" or "Noire worst girl". However, most of those people already finished the game on the Vita before, remember that this is just a port. I'm not supporting reviews like this, I'm just saying that thosr reviews still mean something, since those people didn't began to worship the series out of thin air, but from the games.

And with that being said, I'll say the Steam reviews are at the same time right and wrong. Wrong because this game isn't a 95/100. But also right because Steam reviews is something where you choose whether you think a game is good or bad, and 95% thinks the games tends more to the "good" side than to the "bad" side.

And on the aspect of the fanservice, the games, as I said, keep it really low, but the community makes it seems like this game is nothing but fanservice, when it's really a parody with anime style and all female cast.

And trust me, if you get to like Neptunia, enough to play more games than this one, you WILL get involved with the community at some point, Neptunia will mess with your brain, it has it's charms. It made me, a westers and realistic videogame player put Neptune as my profile pic. After that you'll see how bad the community really is, and you'll start to notice Nep people are everywhere (youtube comments, Steam profiles, PSN profiles, gaming news websites, MMOs, reddit, etc) and some are pretty toxic. But it's possible to ignore.

Weren't the first 3 games on the PS3 too? That means that people even had the chance to play them before the vita. There also has to be a fair bit more of fanservice than normally in games with an all female cast.I may be wrong though as I haven't played the games so I don't have the right to do more than just take a guess.
If the Disgaea series which made me like JRPG's and turn based RPG's as a whole didn't make me get involved with the community(the only time I guess you could say I am involved is when I ask some questions,as the games have a lot of depth).Again I can only take a guess as I haven't played the games yet but I doubt I'll get involved with the community.I think the single game that got me involved with the community was TF2.
What do you mean by westers though?Western as in liking games which are out of japan?

The ReBirths are remakes of the PS3 games, and those PS3 games were actually really bad. Though the first PS3 game, the original Neptunia, had a really good story, which neither of the new Neptunia games can compare, besides Megadimension Neptunia VII (the best Neptuia game acclaimed by most of the community, and a pretty good game overall too, not only by Nep standards, but it's a PS4 title and requires a better PC to run the Steam port).

The combat on this game is pretty fast paced for a turn based JRPG. It's odd to say "fast paced turn battle", but you'll understand what I mean if you look up online, it's hard to explain.

By western games I mean games made on the west. Assassin's Creed, Blizzard Titlles, EA Titles, most MOBAs and FPS, etc. I'm wasn't much into Japanese culture neither into most animes which aren't the mainstream ones like Bleach, One Piece, or maybe Fairy Tail, etc. Neptunia changed that quite a bit on me lol.

The thing about the community is: There is a ton of Neptunia games, and if you like them enough to play almost all of them, they will burn into your soul or something like that, and you'll eventually at least look up for the communities, and if you find any you like, it's possible you stick to it. All the games have pretty much the same characters, so people who played too much of it will begin to get attached to at least one of them, and speaking with people similar to you can feel satisfying on some ways. I tend to just avoid all of the Nep communities though, besides the Nep reddit, which isn't a good community by any means, but there is at least some decent people there that are really helpful, be it for new players or veterans. But every Neptunia community will be flooded with lewds unfortunetly.

Oh so these are remakes.I thought that they're the same games.I enjoy fast paced combat so that's fine with me.I also want to do some post game grinding so the fast pace will help.
I still doubt that I'll enter any communities though, even if I end up playing all of the games.I'll have to see but I'm 99% sure that I won't do that. Also pretty much any fanbase which is all over something from Japan will have lots of lewds. This game series is no exception.

Pretty much, they are all remakes. Neptunia VII isn't a remake though, and it's the 4th game, not the 7th. VII stands for Victory 2, and "Victory 1" is the game which was remade into ReBirth3. So they are pretty much all direct sequels, except ReBirth1, which is in a separate dimension, and it's focus is on presenting the series to newcomers rather than introducing the main dimension.

There is a lot of end game grinding. Each ReBirth main story is around 30 hours, being 20 hours only dialog and 10 hours gameplay. All achievements takes around 45 hours, and finishing all superbosses, dungeons and colosseum fights takes around 60 hours. You can clear the game at around level 70, but there are superbosses, dungeons and fights until level 999. Neptunia VII is a lot longer though, 50 horus for main story, 90 for all achievs, and 160 for clearing all content.

And since there is a lot of grind to get level 999, the game has a unique mechanic that let's you completely skip every animation on the game, be normal attack, skills, or even the victory screen. Or even skip fights completely, where you just touch the monsters and they die, and you get their EXP/items.

I guess I'll have the time of my life in the post game,as I really like grinding and being able to skip will really make it less tedious, especially that I'll keep on seeing the same skills over and over again if I choose to see animations.Which DLC's are worth a buy though?

Pretty much, they are all remakes. Neptunia VII isn't a remake though, and it's the 4th game, not the 7th. VII stands for Victory 2, and "Victory 1" is the game which was remade into ReBirth3. So they are pretty much all direct sequels, except ReBirth1, which is in a separate dimension, and it's focus is on presenting the series to newcomers rather than introducing the main dimension.

The skills are really cool looking. Not something you'd expect from a niche JRPG. Like FFXII levels of cool animations. Yes I know FFXII is a PS2 game, but it has cool animations, and they had a budget 20 times larger than Neptunia ReBirth1 at least.

I'd say to wait before buying the DLC. See if you like the game first. There is no reasons not to get the free DLCs, but one of them is an OP weapon, so avoid equipping it if you feel like using OP DLC weapons is cheating. I feel that way, so maybe you'll feel too? Plutia, Peashy and Histoire are additional characters mostly from the next games, so avoid it since they'll spoil you a bit and will also make the game too easy, since they are pretty OP early on, and they fall quite a bit on late game, becoming almost useless for high level fights. Aditional content is level cap upgrade, each of them increase your level cap by 300 and unlocks new dungeons, new weapons and new monsters/bosses/superbosses, and also new colosseum fights. And the deluxe edition is like a digital limited edition, so you may avoid it too.

Try not to get burnt out on the games when playing them. I recommend if you're into it and you finish Re;birth1 wait a bit until you start Re;birth2... the games are made with a budget in mind and it goes to show with how they reuse assets from unrelated games like Agarest. The PC side of the fanbase reviews really aren't the best to read either, they're mostly "ironic" fans looking to get their meme review highly rated and you'll probably notice they've got less than 5 hours played because they moved on.

I hope you give it a go and try them out. I started with HDN1 and hated it. If it wasn't for Mk2 I wouldn't have gotten into the series and I'm glad they released remakes of the games on Vita and PC for more people to enjoy.
