why does the scar use 50 cal?
and why does it do less dmg than the svd, 7.62x54R lol?

i've fired a 50 cal and an svd in real life, i can tell you right now which one does more dmg

A lot of the firearms stuff is work in progress. According to their Q&A there are a lot of changes and additions to come.

The Scar currently seems to be intended as a Western equivalent for the SVD, and I think they wanted to use the 50 cal ammo a little more here until it served its intended purpose. At least that's what I assume ;-)

My guess is that at a certain point, they noticed they were fighting giant mechs and armor exosuits. So some "brilliant" weapons manufacturer, decided they would attract more customers if their weapons could chamber "anti-material" rounds to deal with that.
