My old review.
I dont play this game and prob never will unless serious changes are made.
So doubt it for other reasons too.

### Game Review: The Forever Winter

The water system dont bother me as much, as everything else.

Overall Impression:
This game needs a lot of improvements. Currently it's not a smooth experience and feels more like a concept than a polished AAA title. If you're considering it, you might want to explore other games first.

Performance:
Running on a 1080 ( I know old ), I found the game demanding. You’ll need at lleast a modern budget GPU or a high-end GPU (like a 4090 or 5090 ) and a LOT of ram for "decent" performance. Unreal Engine games often struggle with optimization and this is no exception. Make sure you're on Windows 10 Pro (22H2) or Windows 11 for DX-12 support, as there's no DX-11 option I think.

Graphics & Design:
The environments are detailed but can feel blocky, reminiscent of older consoles games.
The textures are logically placed , yet the overall design often falls short, making it hard to fully immerse in the world which feels small.

Environment:
The game has a Dull, Phantom Dust ( old x-box game ) feel to it.
Even the player base feels that way.
The atmosphere is set in a dark post-apocalyptic world
( which may turn off a lot of people ). The moody lighting, and atmosphere is really where this game gets points. However, they're far and few, and fleeting.
Some areas of the map are just poorly designed.
They are extremely narrow, and often boring .

Game-play:
Suffers from poor animations for both players and AI. Shooting feels unsatisfying; there's no weight or consequence to your shots, making it feel like you're shooting at cardboard as others have said. You don’t get the visual cues needed to convey proper gun handling and combat.
This issue can be seen watching AI shoot at whatever (which are quite dumb)
or in PvE scenarios. Co-op play is a plus, but the UI and inventory management need a major overhaul. You just feel weighted down and not free to move how you'd like though the limited levels. The NPC's look cool when they patrol in groups and you hear them and their radio chatters. However, its ruined by how naturally they move. How shallow the evade and detect system is. And you just dont get that cool sneak around this world, because of how narrow everything is,. how easily you're seen, and it just gives very little exploration and path plotting options for the player.

inventory:
For a looter shooter its unacceptable how slow and clunky the Inventory system is. Trying to collect loot is a chore and not fun. It should be smooth as putting stuff in a pocket or backpack. but its not. Give us a smooth drag drop hover take system like Apex or something else.

Character Classes:: This is probably the most egregious crime in my opinion; in all the game:
There's No self expression..
You don't get to express yourself visually. Your in game experiences or personal choices
or preferences has little consequence or visual affect.
Instead of crafting your own look and style, you get "classes."
Old white guy, big black guy, masked man, fast woman, robot gun head, etc.

Final Thoughts:
The Forever Winter has potential but needs a lot of work to be truly enjoyable. Its got all the signs of a rushed micromanaged Unreal Engine game, with the worst performance. If you're okay with Very rough edges and have a powerful PC, it might give some shallow atmospheric value. Otherwise, wait for a more polished version as I recommend.

It has offline mode at least seen if you disconnect the internet .

So your overall impression is that the unfinished game isn't finished?
An astute observation indeed.
Ok? So why are you posting it here?
