Water is still a Real Life timer. There are ways around it though. Backing up saves, the secret stash, and WeMod.
EDIT: Real Life Timer has been removed.
Another thing that helps that i saw that i gotta check out now is some sorta stash for your stash? Like basically a protected locker that either wont get wiped or some how mitigates the issue?
Sorry i lightly catch up on this stuff and sorta just work it out in game when i can to fully get whats happening at least atm thats the approach.
If you look around like Mik mentioned theres some really easy ways to get around the water problem. I farm the tutorial quest for a water per run, you get loots, exp, resources/money. 1 Water for every loop at my max water is capped at 99 last i checked. I dont have 99 atm but ive had upwards of maybe 30+ i forget. You can also store the stuff at base pat the limit and just restock with water youve collected once the water runs down again.
You can also just hardcode the locations of water as you make progress. Ive already found some nice alternate farms/routes to do in other places like the level with the extraction elevator thing and the big mech guy you can try to get past/around.
I wiped like 3 times from time/irl without even a full day to play and hated it. Now its not really a thought at all anymore.
As soon as my crutch gets kicked though... i really dont wanna actually work for the water lmao id be happy with it gone.

*EDIT:
The water still ticks down realtime days while you are offline correct. Check out the latest update video if you have any real interest. Maybe sit on the cash if you have other fun games in mind to buy though. I actually very much enjoy this sloppy but beautiful title so far. (I play strictly solo)
So it's pointless to have it in the first place.
I have no idea why they still insist on the real life timer.
Thank you for the detailed answer.
The only issue for casuals is the grind. You will need to grind a few million credits to afford the fully upgraded water reservoir and water bot system PLUS the turrets. THere's also the water grind to get to 90 so you can purchase some of those upgrades. This will take dozens of hours. But...once that is completed, you dont need to log on ever.
Jesus christ.
This game is already heavily uncontested in this niche genre, and fulfills said niche with its base game concept alone. We don't need live service garbage mechanics piled on top.
This. It basically exists as a punishment for new players (you know, paying customers?) who, in this single player product that they PAID for, don't play enough in their first span of playing for the game's liking to avoid said punishment.
Just make a single player extraction shooter, man, this is already such an uncontested and underutilized niche. It's right there - just make the game! You don't need live service mechanics ON TOP of an already extremely solid concept!
This..
They have not outlawed modding so these methods "should" still work well into the future. That being said, do not fall for "PAID" mods. Look for the actuall ones offered on more reputable sites, NexusMods for instance.
It is now instead a spending currency. It may be shared and any excess es converted to XP
Rebalanced detection makes the game still perfectly playable solo.
You know that the studio behind this thing is super tiny and that the game is not finished right?
Timed water was an attempt to create a sense of urgency but if failed because it was intimidating to casuals and nonissue to frequent players. That’s how early early assess works, mechanics that don’t work get tested and thrown out and those that do get worked on.
Yes, the game is great solo. This game actually scales up in difficulty the more human coop players you add because it becomes much harder to sneak around, and the loot is distributed more so it's generally going to take longer to complete missions in a group depending on the quests everyone has, but can make it easier to complete the harder missions.
2) Does my water still tick down when i'm not even playing the game, or its only in game now?:
No, water does not have a timer any longer. It now functions as a currency to enter higher level maps, advantageous spawns on all maps, and still has the effect on the innards where you need a stockpile of x amount to unlock base upgrades. You can run a few maps and spawn for free (0 water usage) so there really is no downside to water at this point unless you run a ton of advanced maps/spawn points. Additionally - Water can be shared between players, so playing as a group can lessen the water expense so long as players give the host a water or two.
Overall - This update is a massive improvement across the board aside from some of the larger enemies needing some tweaking to be less efficient at spotting players.
