The Forever Winter

The Forever Winter

About demo
So many people advised to buy and play the game. Thanks to the devs that there's demo.
Got through tutorial, learned basicly nothing, cause some zombie cyborgs just kept rushing me.

Ok, then Ashen Mesa. Just need to find evac point and extract. Sounds too easy, but doable
1st run
Got to see EvE part of PvEvE. Thought twas interesting mechanic. Got some loot aaaaand squad of unknown soldiers spawns just at my face and wipes me out. Lost weapon, ammo and medkits
2nd run
Packed some ammo and medkits. Made it through the map to some kind of bunker door that was marked as evac point. Bunker door is closed. There's patrol of soldiers that fights cyborg-zombie thingies. Started to make path to another evac but there's effing horde of those again. Tried to sneak. Got zergrushed. Lost ammo and medkits.
3rd run.
Got stuck on the roof of the hut, because:
1) Squad heavy equipped soldiers happened to patrol around that same hut
2) From nearby "ruin" squad of cyborgs was spawning indefinitely from thin air and was wiped almost instantly
3) Wasp-looking drones in the pack of two also were spawning indefinitely and coming from other side.
Got nowhere to go, spent solid 10 to 15 minutes on that roof. Tried to make it. Got wiped by the heavies. Lost ammo.
4th run
Made it to the bridge ruin between helo, mech, tank and zombies. Got cornered by the same zombies on the aforementioned bridge wreck. Dunno was it misstep or smth but falled and died. Lost nothing.
5th run
I think it was kinda "night time". Found some ammo. Got happy. Some big dog looking thingy found me. Got scared. Made it to the timed evac. Zombies just materialized from thin air before me. Died because maneuvering got me out of bounds and i falled.

So here is why i wrote all previous (not in particular order):
1) Can you add some legend for icons on the compas? Like evac point legend i got from quest, ok. But what does timer icon mean? Might be limited time evac? (Ofc i got what it means when i made it there ). What does red skull mean? etc
2) What if i keep dying, being unexpirienced player, and lost all my ammo, gear and all? Is there an option to make some money or extract some gear, like playing as scav (haha) in eft?
3) Maybe at least some map info in innards? Like if there's some kind of a map when you choose location to drop and a drop point it shouldn't be a problem to show evac points.
4) I played demo so hadn't access to other maps, but imo Ashen Mesa is too much for noobs to run for first quest. I don't suppose that all other maps are more or much difficiult than Ashen Mesa.
And i wouldn't complain about whacky camera, aiming and moving in general - game is in EA after all but even considering that i think it's too early to buy it. Respect for people who back this game nonetheless.

  1. Timer Icons mean it's a timed extract (you need to activate it then the countdown err counts down) technically you don't need to activate when you are wanting to extract you can do it at any time and return later. The red skulls basically mean damaged or depleted units like a battered Exo (small mech) or a single surviving troop from a squad and things like that. Empty boxes on the compass are just plain old extracts,, err it all needs some more work tbh, just head generally in the direction of where you expect to extract, this can be a zig-zag or whatever route.
  2. Stop dying, it's easy to survive once you have the knack. If you can barely defend yourself then it makes sense not to invite getting shot to pieces by squads (they have very accurate fire, you don't) or gang banged by cyborgs so run away or at least go down like a scav, spraying and praying. The trick with 'borgs is to not panic and head shot them at fairly close range, the shotgun can basically one shot them when they're really close.
  3. The extraction can be insertion point dependant, like if the timed extractions are a pain (they can be) then choose an insertion point (on the map screen) that hasn't got a timed extract, depending on the map you can also use any extraction, it depends.
  4. I mean Ashen Mesa is a high low - low medium difficulty, some maps I'd say just forget because they're horrible death traps but others once you have the knack are a walk in the park but they don't really have difficulties on the maps it's more about if you have the patience and perseverance to be bothered to learn what goes on.

At first, do not take weapons, ammunition, medicines with you, just study the map of the movement of the squads, try to get out alive. If you can, just collect the loot that is lying around on the map, sell the loot, save up money, you will need it in the future to buy a Rig. You are not Rambo at the beginning.
