I don't feel like its an issue at all. The game is in early access one of the benfits of this is you can try it out and refund it if its not where you would like it right now.
I expected to do this and almost did after 10 minutes.
Now having pushed through that initial response I'm enjoying the game quite a bit. I don't feel like I need to go and get water I tend to pick it up in areas I know it is easily accessed (which is a lot of them) if I have space in my rig and am looking to ex-fil.
I played a lot the last few days but I fully expect that with my knowledge of areas and the wealth of quests to finish that a casual few hours a week will would maintain and steadily increase my water levels.
I played for a combined five hours across like three days and went from three water to 26, it's not that hard, and I suck at games. I also enjoy the game enough to come back and max out my water and customize the Innards. So many chill quests hand out water for doing stuff you'd probably already be doing, I don't get why folks are so pressed about getting water.
This issue is not that you have to play every day, because you're right you don't.
The issue is that it's extremely poor form for a game to essentially hold you hostage into playing it. I like the game a lot, but it basically putting a gun to my head and telling me if I decide to put the game down for a while its going to burn all my ♥♥♥♥ is very off putting.
Still don't understand why you're defending this. Stop thinking about "Oh it's not so bad."
Try asking yourself why it's there at all.
From the game perspective being hardcore you're telling me that at some point I just don't have enough space to put the water? I scavenge it in barrels and the innards has tons of space to put them. The cap system is nonsense to me.
Other than that I LOVE the idea of the urgency of the water system, because it isn't a life dominating urgency and it hits a nice sweet spot for me.
Look I love mech combat games but I cant stand Mechwarrior. The combat is slow the movement is clunky. For me its the opposite of what I want in a mech game. I do understand that other people.. A LOT of other people love it. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean I'm going to goto the maker of Mechwarrior and ask them to make the game play like Armored Core. What I'm going to do is play Armored Core.
Unfortunately for the people who are so against the water system I feel like your bias' will prevent you from enjoying what is in the end, a game. Because for every game isn't for everybody and the people who have been willing to experience the water system seem to love it so you're going to have to accept that it probably isn't going anywhere.
In the end, it can be legislated against, as the cash-shops and gachas have been in many jurisdictions. Nobody has to accept anything.
It forces you to play to keep your data. Thats a ♥♥♥♥ mechanic. Imagine playing diablo this way. You have to log in, farm crystals to keep your save data.
These people just don't get it, its insane. What is wrong with these people?
I hear what your saying, there have definitely been some things that have raised my eyebrows about this mechanic and release, this company's QA practices and such. In relation to real-world application of the mechanic for a business venture, it's an inventive solution to the problem of getting players to log hours and pick up the game.
But like...whatever man. It's a game. They make it. I play it. It's got a dark-as-♥♥♥♥ premise. Destroying my stuff after not having water in real-time is kinda what I'm here for, because of how annoying in the real-world it is, and how on edge that feels in relation to the premise of the game. Makes me start thinking about the actual topic of needing to find water everyday too, ya know? Something that's pretty easy for people in modern settings to do, but that would become really hard if society went dark. So yeah, both sides, but whatever, I will play. sometimes.
I think you're missing the point. Most people I know don't have any feeling of being held hostage. I know I don't. Speak for yourself. If you feel like you're being held hostage, fine, just say that. Don't Speak for me.
