The Mother Courage, Organmech and Grabber have 1 billion* hp, specifically to make them unkillable to players. But because of some weirdness about how NPC's deal damage to each other, it's possible for them to be worn down enough to die or be killed by a player throwing damage at them. Toothy, for perspective, has 75k HP apparently and we are not meant to kill him until his minions and kill quest is implemented.
In general, the heaviest things we are meant to be able to kill with a maxed out loadout, squad and some luck is a Medium mech, and that's gonna take well over 30 40mm grenade hits.
*Literally, as in that is the number in the code.
Err I witness the body Tank Vs Mother Courage fight a very long time and she seems to have a very large Hit points.
I don't think you have enough bullets to kill it and even if you do kill it firing that many rounds sure is going to be bringing in a lot of others to your location.
Besides that, the old man can be trained for HRF, so I really don't get why it should be a THAT bad idea to give him a NTW-20.
