That's not how this works...that's not how any of this works.
This is a 4 player lobby based game.
And? You can have four player servers, then. Then have the lobbies have this wild invention called a filter that you can use to sort out the ones that have the rules you want. It's very simple. I believe the technology for all of it has existed for at least twenty five years now.
Games don't have to be restricted to such structured 'types'.
The problem with meta servers is there needs to be a central point to advertise the various players/game lobbies available. Each lobby is run on a separate host, whether that's a dedicated server or a player's computer. A distributed meta server is kind of the holy grail of programming in general because the idea that you can have a communal pool of servers which self advertise to a group of other servers without knowing who's in that pool to begin with is kind of a big deal.
