Prestige? why?
So we get xp, and instead of spend it on skills have to spend it on prestige, then lose all skills we bought, so we level again, and repeat? seems like a silly system...

You must be new in world of video games...

I mean at least you get additional health every level, and every few levels you get a movement speed bonus ... I think they shouldve just had health and movement speed as things you can upgrade perhaps?

but tbh its not that big of a deal early, I prestiged a character a few times without leveling any of the skills ... they dont really feel tangible to be quite frank, the health and movement speed is bigger for me :boozebottle:

It is not clearly explained ingame but it is mentioned in another post here - it is not INSTEAD, it is AND. The higher the prestige, the higher the pool of xp you can spend on skills.

Would be nice if XP going beyond the current prestige cap wouldn't go to waste.

Needing to consider the mission and when to complete them to avoid XP reward going over the limit, is obviously not a fun mechanic having to deal with.

Yeah, prestige doesn't add anything to this game but grind.

You prestige for a general boost of the character stats. So a prestige lvl 3 shaman has more health than a lvl 1 shaman. I believe characters get different boost based on what prestige the character has obtained.

they should have called that levels instead of prestige, for real.
You can spend the XP points on skills that will help you as you work toward the next prestige level. The global XP pool doesn't diminish, so there's no reason not to take the perks to help you along the way.

And then you lose the skills after prestige up and have to wait before you can buy them again. And then again. And then again.
Yes, and?

It hardly matters to be honnest. First two lvls of the perks are usually enough, and that cost you like 8k xp. Except for scav girl since she has the rig perk. But she hardly is the best character to play IMO.
Right, and when you spend that XP, it doesn't take away from your progress to the next prestige level. It really is a non-issue. It doesn't add much, but it's not a problem either. I'm sure it's one of those things that will be fleshed out over time, but as it stands now, it's neither good nor bad.

the prestige system imo is bad as it currently is.
The idea isn't terrible with giving bonuses for sacrificing your progress but with how it works currently its basically enforced time playing with nothing just so you can get to the actually good part of each character.
I'd quite happily see the skill tree xp cap removed or segregated entirely into unlocks and have prestige become the only source of improvement to our stats possibly even with its own set of points that we allocate towards things like HP, Move speed, weapon accuracy etc.
its one of the mechanics that I think needs a lot of work but its not a bad idea overall because constantly building up to go back to having to use the absolute worst rigs for a run or two until I can equip the ones that actually let me carry more than my guns, a couple of medkits and a few spare mags for one of them really is a huge drag and even with having the enhanced rigs which I hope we will see more of with time (or at least more variants of rigs because currently they are all 100% one way or the other for storage) and the high quality / reinforced parts once you unlock them the difference between having to use say the enhanced rig vs the medium gunrunner / equipment carrier makes the game feel entirely different

It would be interesting if the lifetime xp contributed to the prestige system perhaps, but the normal character xp focused on the skills. Something to prevent us from playing the game for hours on end ( if you don't abuse the spawns right now ) just to get prestige xp over and over for the hp and movement speed buffs without using hardly any of the skills at all.

EDIT: Apparently you can use the xp on skills without it pulling away from your prestige xp? Weird I think I see what their point was now with this system. Leaving the original post for archival purposes.

Anyone who thinks the system won't be radically different a year from now, is being naive.

It's an Early Access game, what you are seeing is essentially a placeholder.
