Solo it's much easier to stay hidden and pick your moments, and go when the chance opens itself. However if you do get caught out, you only have yourself to fight back.
In a group it's much easier to be spotted and harder to coordinate quick movements and fast reactions across the whole team. However you have 4 guys fighting if you do get caught out.
I would say the game is very solo-able, but it's more of a stealth game. Not to say you can't shoot anything but you have to be pickier about engagements. But it's also way easier to loot and scoot alone. It only takes one person to miss the moment and get caught out.
You can play solo, you can also hire AI team mates if you want.
Or at least wait until you have the gear and prestige
I'm playing solo using the Bag Man (LMG or HMG and a auto-shotgun) and once you get the hang of it you can clear out whole squads. It helps that the AI isn't the brightest bulb [yet]. the deadliest foe is level geometry - if you get stuck while evading, that's pretty much it. Devs already started adressing those geometry bugs though.
The ai teammates are a liability at present, but can change. Only some maps. And youll hit the full game cycle quickly at present. If you can accept its a early alpha, then join us. But I advise you wait, so that you have more to eat and chew on months from now.
Please vacate this discussions, only "no lifers" are allowed here.
Don't water about the water mechanic, water has set spawns that are guaranteed and if you know where to look you can get like 40 water in one hour easily; and thats my route I haven't even looked online for how other players are playing and whatnot (might be faster routes). Just been just rocking my own personal playstyle.
If you're decent at shooters you can hold your own against the AI when you do engage, however don't just be like an AI yourself and just shoot back till one of you is dead. What I mean is the AI is kinda basic and so you can turn a corner and quickly unload on one or two squad units and then run back before the rest of the squad lights you up and fall back a little, take a turn and come up their flank. Once they lose direct sight (maybe not to the exact second you lost sight) of you they won't know where you are anymore, but will still investigate. Gorilla warfare makes it easy
Making money in game is easy as well, some items will spawn hunters so come find you but there is plenty of items that won't and are actually worth more than the ones that spawn hunters.
Once you have access to it buy a better rig, you don't lose them on death. I'm basically ranting now lol, forgive me but if you're interested in the game but wasn't sure how it would be going solo I'll say its 100% doable. I don't even use the hired AI you can get, pure solo
