The Forever Winter

Easy confirmation that hunter triggers depends on map
Edit: nothing to see here, nexus was my comparison map and it just doesn't work the same.

Found different behavior across maps. Scorched is either bugged or intentionally neutered to prevent long play.

Scorched earth, cemetery. Go to any box, any corpse. Open it 12 times. Hunters. Doesn't matter what's in it, doesn't matter the total value, doesn't matter if you loot any of it. The bug where it pops up and closes because you were too far away counts. Mixing in other inventories doesn't change anything, 12 total opens. No difference between bringing a loadout or naked. Everything in this paragraph has been tested myself.

There are other triggers, for sure. Everyone's experienced 3 water, weapon tech, kill a tiny number of enemies, etc. the point is this is verifiably different behavior so far with at least one other map, which points to map-dependent values, trigger types, or at least one map being buggy. "Open 12" is such an obviously dumb design I can't imagine it's intentional. I want to give them more credit than that, but having seen the fruits of their programming prowess in other parts of the game, not so sure.

I tried on scrapyard nexus to compare, got to 102 opens, nothing. Point being, include your maps when testing or posting about hunter triggers.

For me on Mech Trenches - HK always trigger if you go over 50kg of rig weight, does not matter what you loot.

They should be delete this or make them only 1 Spawn. Not Infinite with wallhack....
An update so there's no confusion: this was pre-update, and I discovered that scrapyard nexus doesn't seem to have hunters at all, so there's little useful conclusion to be gained except that scorched was absolutely 100% bizarre garbage with the "open 12" rule. Never got to test if other maps had the same type of trigger.

Will have to start the testing from scratch.

Honestly nothing about the hunters feels intentional, it really feels like they just kinda shoved them in there last second. On paper it's not a bad mechanic. But it's execution really just makes it absurdly funny. Like this elite squad is sent out to hunt you because you opened a box 12 times in a row, or picked up literally valueless water. Or my favorite they are sent to kill you because you're kill stealing by killing their enemies. It's just such a silly mechanic.

Also scrapyard nexus doesn't have hunter killers at all, I went in there guns blazing killing half the outpost and HKs never got called, I imagine because the map has 0 europan enemies and seems to serve more as a euroskan/eurasian outpost without any infighting.

I actually came looking to see if anyone else had the same problem as I did where the Hunter Killers vary and can even be things one doesn't expect them to be. For example, 4 of the past 5 times on Ashen Mesa and Scorched Enclave I have had Hunter Killers deployed, only to find a Europan Medium Mech spawn somewhere very close to me and immediately become aggroed regardless of anything between us and begin hunting me down, even in quite tight spaces which the Medium Mechs are those gigantic monstrosities with the truck sized rifles that can one-shot you with them and pelt you with explosives and machine gun fire. I learned their names as I have not managed to do a thing about it. I really wish the Hunter Killer mechanic was not only specified but apparently consisted of a set enemy type, as I've had it be a squad of Europan armored troopers, the Pummelers, and now almost always Europan Medium Mechs.

Are HK hard to kill? if not, it seems like a good way to farm ♥♥♥♥♥ from them
"Open 12" is now "Open 24", tested on scorched & mesa, so they might have just doubled some values on the triggers.

Have had the medium as a hunter on scorched, was also bugged as just "Hostile" as happens sometimes. Pretty spicy to actually have one aggroed on you from afar the way hunters do.

I am super disappointed that "open an inventory X times, even if it's the same one" is still a trigger at all, but from extremely limited interaction at least it seems the changes to spawning had some effect.

This thread turned out to be kinda crap btw, nexus just doesn't seem to spawn hunters, and I hadn't yet tested "open 12" on any other maps, so it ended up being that there's really nothing interesting about what I posted. Should let it die and contribute to a more general hunter thread.

After the update it seems that indeed some values have been changed. No longer getting triggered in Mech Trenches as before, looted Weapon Tech and Neuralinks in Ashen Mesa without getting it triggered either. Can confirm that no HK spawn in Scrapyard Nexus for me either.

to kill a HK is not that hard, only 7 - 10 shotgun hits in the face
but HK are not travelling alone
