Hunter Killer Spawn
Hey y'all, I wanted to start a discussion here to figure out how the Hunter Killer spawn works. More specifically, what makes them spawn and how to avoid it if possible. I am aware that taking specific items makes them come after you instantly like weapons parts. However, I wanted to collect info on other conditions that basically piss them off and how many spawn. One thing I've noticed is that when I play my level 10 Old Man three Hunter Killers spawn, yet when I play my level 1 Mask Man only one spawns. Does anyone else see this occur too? Thanks for the help and good scavenging. :koboldkiss:

So far I've only had them spawn on specific item pick up. And even then it is slightly inconsistent.
Also, the intensity of what spawns seems completely random to me as well. I've had a squad of cyborgs, EODs, and even a medium mech at different times.

I'm glad they're not as aggressive lol. But I wanted to add that I triggered a spawn by grabbing three things of water :/

Seems extremely inconsistent at the moment. I've went entire runs without seeing one, but if i pick up a small circuit board or weapon tech I'm instantly targeted by them and they never let up. I understand the "you're not that guy" idea but this just seems unnecessarily punishing.

Yeah the hunter-killer or scrambler teams confuse me, I liked it when I killed a soldier who survived a firefight cause it's like "Yeah, they'd mark me as hostile now and hunt me to the ends of the earth" but then it just happens when picking up any old thing and it's less cool

Maybe an item should have a red outline or marker saying "Warning: Device has tracking tech" or something

I just had HKs spawn after picking up a single fertilizer so maybe it is just completely random with a percent chance on loot pickup based on value of said piece of loot?

It wouldn't be hard to implement a proper Hunter-Killer system.
One of your items has been secretly tagged with a beacon. When it pings, hunter killers will be alerted to your location. But if you hide in a safe spot, the hunters will need to spam the beacon - make it beep more to get more clues about where you went - and what route you took. That ping spam makes it recognizable to you. After you click on the tagged item in your inventory, you get a free beacon. You can either crush it with your item use, or throw it away to distract the hunter-killers, effectively losing the scent.
If you don't have beacons but were detected, an APB will be put out by one of the factions for your face, telling their army that "hey look a sackrat, kill the sackrat and we'll give you a bonus". The soldiers won't usually ditch a firefight to murder you, but if you're alone and they think they see you, they'll go after you for that sweet, sweet loot.

They also might spawn based on number of enemies killed. I've been farming scrapyard nexus and after 40-50 cyborgs the HKs have spawned.

I've noticed some patterns on the conditions

> Is the item a quest item? Yes - HK Spawn
> Does the value of your total loot exceed X amount? (I believe to be around ~30k in value) - HK Spawn
>Have you been in the raid longer than 15 minutes and continue to loot? - HK Spawn

Be mindful once you reach a certain value in your backpack, HK's will spawn. Be mindful of the quest items such as a Neuralink, Photograph, or other high value items

I read through the thread you sent me and it's oddly both true and false. For example: on roughly 4 to 8 runs I was waiting in Ashen to complete the quests about the pilot and corpse tank. Obviously I could't fight them so I waited till they died, got what I needed, then ran. Most of them I waited more than 20 minutes, twice half a hour, yet no Hunters. As for quests, I've grabbed the pictures before with no issue (though that was before the patch, so maybe that changed?). Lastly, I've had bags with over 75k worth of loot yet no Hunters came after me. So yes, I've noticed them trigger when those conditions have been met, but I've also seen them never come when they should. I don't think your information is faulty, it's just that the Hunters are so inconsistent that we can judge a couple of guarantees, like Weapon Tech and such, and the rest is speculation.

I have looted neuro links and weapon tech and haven't had them spawn. Also the 'Teddy Bear' quest item didn't spawn them when I grabbed it.
But it's easily like 99% when grabbing high value stuff like weapon tech.

Between my last message and now, I've been targeted after grabbing a MRE and letting my character look into an ammo chest to see what was what. It's honestly getting ridiculous because all my deaths today have been from them or another enemy who killed me while I was running from the Hunters.

I don't like the Hunter Killer mechanic at all. at least make them spawn but take away the ability to know where i am at all times because I'm playing as the scav girl and i have been killed crossmap because one sprayed into me after I barley made it out alive from a scuffle and I had a loot box and a full backpack and had meticulously got up there in value with patience and waiting and biding my time. Very annoying to all of a sudden across the map be ended because i "took to long" or "i have to much stuff" or "i have a tracked item" just seems like a cop out when i want the entirety of the map to be filled with things that if I don't play it right or have knowledge about to potentially end my run. Yet it kinda feels like a cop out mechanic just to make sure there's guaranteed danger. But hey its not my game and ill keep playing but, it would be more fun with the hunter killers not able to across the map kill you can know where you are at all times. They and maybe the tracker bot is the only thing that kill me and i feel there's nothing i can do about it.......
