Biggest drawback beyond that I see is that your 5.45mm guns come loaded with standard 5.45mm ammo, so you need to either fire it off or manually switch if you're only bringing junk ammo and want to do a partial reload.
I also checked, and you cannot use a 100-rd AK to "launder" your junk rounds into regular 5.45, the initial magazine you start loaded with doesn't go into your inventory when you swap ammo, it just seems to hang out in some random pocket dimension until you switch back, lol.
