The Forever Winter

One big request
I really like what the dev had to say in the most recent video. It fills me with hope for the future of the video game industry. I'm really hyped for this game, but as usual, for any game I'm looking forward to, I have a big concern: I hope the controls are done well. There are many people who need to have custom controls for many different reasons, and I feel like a lot of modern games are lacking in this area. But, there are a few relatively simple things that can be done to assure good accessibility for any game. And that is to:

Have two rows of keybinds, so any action in the game can have two different keys assigned to it.
For instance, I use RCtrl/B/N/M for movement, but also like to have numpad5/1/2/3 set to movement as well. Also both V and down arrow set to sprint, spacebar and right arrow both set to jump, etc..

Allow key combos to be used, and not just with modifiers as the base.
For instance, being able to have Ctrl, Shift or Alt + a key as a control is great, but allowing any keys to be used together as a combo is the best. Like allowing L + A, or Z + NumPad7, etc.. Also, it should go without mentioning that modifier keys should be separated from their counterpart. Left and right Shift, for example. Should go without mention, but is included because too many games treat one shift as both, or just don't allow modifier keys to be used at all, even just by themselves.

Add a toggle option for different types of holds.
Most games give a toggle option for crouching, but then completely forget about sprint or ADS. Any action that has a reasonable benefit from being toggled, please add an option for it. This includes an auto-walk key.

Allow actions to remain unbound, and allow duplicate bindings.
Setting up my controls for GTAV was an absolute nightmare for me. Nothing could be left unbound, and no two actions could have the same key assigned. By the time I finished, I ♥♥♥♥ you not, every key on my keyboard was used. Idk what I would have done if my laptop didn't have a numpad. So please, trust the player to disable an action if they wish, or to have the same key bound to multiple actions. If their choices lead to issues in-game, they'll quickly find out on their own and fix it.

And my final, biggest suggestion:

No hard coded keybinds.
This is another one that should go without saying, but I've encountered multiple games released this year that either had some actions grayed out, not allowed to be changed, or just not even included in the list to be changed. Or worse, no keybinding at all (looking at you, Star Trucker).

If you want inspiration, just look at any modern Ubisoft game. They may suck at a lot of things, but their entire settings menu should be used as the industry standard. Their games are the only ones I can play without needing autohotkey. So, long story short, game looks tight yo, but I hope the controls are phat too.

Please add anything I may have overlooked.

I can't heal in the game because the heal key bind can't be changed. If only did the devs listen to you.

Man, that's a bummer to hear. I had hoped for no hard coded keybinds at the very least.

Edit: You can always resort to autohotkey, like I do in situations like that. It's not ideal, but at least it'll allow you to play. The script needed to rebind keys is really simple. You just put the key you want to change, add two colons, the the key you want to change it to. So, for instance, if heal was on H, but I wanted it on Q, the script would be:
H::Q

Did you try switching the heal key specifically?
