How good are the extraction elements of that game? I've been looking at it but the messaging seems mixed.
Appreciate it.
In Witchfire, 36 hours were enough for me to close all the content. Technically, it is better and I did not encounter a single bug
In "The Forever Winter" I have 120 hours, and it is very crooked.
Depends on what you want from the game, you need a game to suffer, this is "The Forever Winter"
For playing in the evenings without nerves, then Witchfire
The Forever Winter.
TO answer your question about how the extraction elements work:
Forever winter is the more 'true' extraction shooter in that you go on a raid bringing in gear you bought or previously raided, look for loot and/or complete quests and get out. If you die, everything you found and everything you took with you is dropped. But you do get one chance on your next raid to find your corpse and get back your guns and rig upgrades (basically backpack upgrades). Forever winter also has co-op. Comparing to other Extraction shooters: it has no PvP, loot is simplified as only weight is a factor, no loot tetris necessary, and there is no armor. You can customize weapons. Also ammo is used from anywhere in your inventory, no need to put it in mags and then have it stored in pockets or rigs.
Witchfire is a bit more of a rogue like than extraction shooter when compared to Forever winter, in that when you unlock something it is always yours, you will never drop a gun or upgrade on death. You will however drop unused XP just like Dark souls. Similar to both Forever winter and dark souls, you get one chance to find your dropped XP on your next raid. Maps have a bunch of random events and enemy spawns on them. When clearing enemies you get an upgrade that only lasts for that raid (hence the rogue like comparison). Also no PvP. This one has no Co-op (and as of now, no plans for coop). Also has very simple loot... You might find one or two equipment pieces in very specific places to permanently unlock them, but generally you only find treasure and usable items or crafting materials. Some of which you keep as soon as you find it, some of which you lose if you die on that run, but becomes yours once you make it back to base. Witchfire is more about unlocking things permanently over a long period of time rather than finding loot on raids. There's a lot more complexity to witchfire in that each map has permanent changes you can make to them and mysteries to solve and one overall objective that will take multiple runs before you can accomplish it.
So in short, Forever winter is more like a traditional Extraction shooter but PvE and coop and something you can technically play forever, looting and doing quests that are cycled at random.
Witchfire has more roguelike elements and is a game with more of a grind and end goal that you will straight up 'beat' when you accomplish the objective in each map.
And just to clarify, both games are fantastic and worth playing.
Thanks man, appreciate the info!
I do feel that Forever Winter has a higher ceiling so check back later.
