New map literally near impossible to explore, no matter what entrance you choose.
Grabber ruins any map. Sick and tired of everything big either have HP pools in the millions or theyre outright invunerable.
The devs intend for big enemies to 1 shot you or kill you very fast so you will run or hide in the future.
I used to do a lot of modding for Starcraft 1, especially in regards to map making. Basically any major RTS game of the late 90s all the way to about 2008 I was active in the map making scenes. Most especially SC1 and Tiberian Sun though.
There is no excuse for a beta build being that inept. It's so poorly designed right now that to release it as a presentation proof of concept just makes me think "wow, you have no idea what you are doing do you?" It would be like if someone said "here is my unfinished idea. Keep in mind it's still a work in progress, but look at this giant featureless map! It has no terrain, no event flags, no texturing for foliage, but it has a beginning and end point and there's a ton of enemies to kill".
Obviously the cemetary isn't THAT bad, but I'm just trying to get the point across that this poorly thought out map shows how little thought was put into it. It certainly looks good. It's atmospheric and delightful to walk around in and look at. But the very moment you start factoring enemies, special map features, item placement, etc... it fails miserably.
That's something a lot of their maps lack in now that I think of it: There's tons of places that look like you could do something cool and have a fun event trigger, but mostly it's just the mech trenches where anything cool actually happens. And even then it's just turning on the grinder or unplugging that one dudes life support. Even Unreal Tournament 1999 had more map interactivity and special events than that.
On a good note the map itself looks amazing. I guess I just need to get better at sneaking past the area where that stupid grabber is.
I'm not convinced Jeff ever read the CVs of his 30 veteran AAA developers. At least, he hasn't shared them. Or his own for that matter. Well there is Workshop modding for this game
It can't be an alpha build since there was already a closed beta.
For entry point "Pipe" there's an underground pipe system. Hang right, down the slope, look to your bottom left.
If you traverse the pipe, I noticed that there's an unreachable place, covered by what looks like a storm drain. It looks to be unreachable by the doggo, but I haven't tested it out.
I finished the map the second time that I attempted it, but then I added a bunch of Ashen quests, but forgot to change the map to Ashen, so I ended back in the Cemetary map, got hammered multiple times and spent time studying the doggo AI and map in general. You are on a tight timer for that map, similar to the HKs in Ashen.
