Dx12 is not supported

Trying to run FW demo I get this:
"DirectX12 is not supported on your system. Try running without -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument"

Dxdiag shows that I do have Dx12 right now
DirectX installer from Microsoft shuts itself down saying "already installed" when run
Steam launch options line is empty
Adding "-dx12" to launch options line does nothing - the error mesage's the same

What's wrong with the game?

Are you using a laptop? Have you updated your drivers?

If your drivers are updated and you are using a laptop, chances are that windows has set your processor IGPU as the default for the game. This game needs a discrete GPU to even run at all.

If your laptop has a discrete gpu, then you will have to go into the windows graphics settings to set it as the one for forever winter.

Even though IGPUs technically support dx12, it might not support all of its feature sets or simply aren't powerful enough to support them.

dx12 as a "brand" is very old. UE5 games often require either some "advanced" or **alll** the defined dx12 feature set to be supported.

The error (poorly written) is actually telling you that your selected GPU (or improperly selected GPU as the above comment suggests) does not support all the required dx12 features, shaders, and/or magic.

Exactly what and why is a mystery without any details on your system, but you can cross-check your hardware with the expected feature set for the game using google.

TLDR; your system probably supports dx12 in some manner, just not the manner required.

Post the entire spec including OS build and revision.

8 times out of 10 the users that got this error sit in unsupported Windows update or LTSC branch.

Note that this error is specific to Unreal Engine 5, so you'll have it in more games if you don't resolve the issue.

Your windows is a rather old build, 3 years at least, even 5 depending on which 18363 build. Is there a reason you are not updating it? Your directx 12 could be outdated as such.

This is why i asked for revision number as well:
You need build of at least 18363.1350

So do update your Windows, it's the only thing preventing Agility SDK games from booting o your PC (note, this applies to any game engine at this point, not just Unreal).

I don't know why this can't be patched on the dev's end. Frostpunk 2 does the same thing for me. I've updated everything I can and it still gives me the same error.

Why should it be ? It's not a bug in the game.

List basic PC specs, the exact version of video driver, and exact Windows build and revision number.

I have the same issue. Have not been able to run the demo yet. Updated Windows, CPU, and GPU with no success. Thoughts?

Yes it's an old beast and I'm replacing it soon but for now it's what I've got.
