Why the SPAS-12 sucks in-game compared to real life
Unfortunately, the SPAS-12 we have in-game is nothing like it's real-life counterpart, and has been completely nerfed for this game. The most iconic shotgun of all time, arguably, was nerfed for FW.

In real life, the SPAS-12 holds 8+1 shells. In game, it's 5+1.

In real life, the SPAS-12 is a semi-automatic shotgun with a backup pump-action feature. The pump-action is NOT recommended for regular use, since it has a spring that requires a lot more force to action than a regular pump which would have no spring. It's there, just in case.
In game, the SPAS-12 says it's semi-automatic, but you can't change the firemode so it only works as a pump-action sadly.

In real life, the SPAS-12 does as much damage as the shells loaded into it, because the pellets do damage not the gun. In game, for some reason the SPAS-12 seems to do less damage than the surplus shotgun, using the same shells. I'm not sure why, but SPAS-12 kills guys in 2 shots at close range, but the surplus kills them in only 1 shot.

I really do feel like a lot of the damage tables in this game have values that were just chosen at random. I have no doubt they'll be tweaked and fixed before too long, but in the meantime, it can definitely be jarring if you know anything at all about calibers and chambering.

Side note - I've never gotten to experience a SPAS-12 first hand, but I do love my KSG-12 a lot; bullpup-style with 14+1. Would be cool to see one in-game.
All things being equal you would expect it to equal the default shotgun :waifu:
I agree, it's not accurate to real life unfortunately, alot of the guns aren't. Hopefully they make some Stat adjustments at least. You might be happier with the AA-12, i consider it standard equipment for me now.

I desperately need a Vepr-12 in my life...

You could probably down patch and use the water mission glitch.

I think I see Eurasian Cyborgs with them fairly often,, when they're armed with AA12's there's often at least one in the mix :waifu:

I will try this method, thank you.

If that's true, maybe I just haven't noticed. I will focus on them more, thank you.

Back up your save just in case. Probably easier to use a program I can't name if there are tables for this game already.
Yeah when you see the cyborg troops and hear the AA12 chug it's worth checking out the bodies as there might be one there, or at least an AA12 or two. But they're most often P90 armed and so they're :turd:

Spas12 is just a shotgun my guy. A semi-automatic shotgun with pump functionality... that performed poorly.

The SPAS-12 was designed to function primarily as a semi-automatic firearm, with the pump-action mode used to reliably fire low-pressure ammunition such as tear gas rounds or less-lethal bean bags. The firing mode is switched by pressing a button under the foregrip and sliding the foregrip slightly forwards or backwards until it clicks into position. However, the pump-action mode was slow and awkward compared to traditional pump-action guns because of the complex changeover mechanism and friction between the foregrip and the hand-guard.

Beyond the goofy pump action, it was just a semi automatic shotgun. It did however have good PR... so its highly sought after by collectors.

A Standard traditional Shotgun in the hands of someone who knows how to use one can fire nearly as fast as a semi automatic shotgun.

all that said... Buckshot is only really good for about 25yrds (75ft).. and ideally you want it closer then that, like 10-15yrds (30-45ft)

Slugs go further of course, but most video games use buckshot as the shotgun standard.

that said, there really isnt a gun made thats MORE powerful within 5ft then the shotgun... it absolutely shreds at 5-10ft (against unarmored targets)

Agreed.
Whoever come up with the current damage numbers on many of the in game guns, didnt really know what they were doing. Some 9mm's doing more damage then a .357 magnum revolver is ridiculous, since the .357 is >>should<< be the strongest handgun currently in game. The .50 cal SCAR only does 200 damage, which some of the 9mm pistols do and that is insane. There are other examples of firearm damage numbers being off from what they should be. Also some longer barrels making less damage then shorter ones, etc etc. I really hope they get someone that knows more about guns, to adjust some of the damage numbers on the a lot of the firearms in game so it actually is a bit more realistic.

Other then that the game can be a lot of fun and looks amazing. I think with more adjustments and tweaks and updates, this could be a really good and unique looter shooter.
