Also having the game run OFFLINE locally would be fantastic. So much BS with server overload and availability these days ruining the experience. Every few months there's a disaster launch because of always online BS.
this is the segment from the discord that covers this. if you don't believe me join it and read it yourself in Q&A.
Q:Will it be like GTFO where friends are all but required in order to do content or will it be relatively easier to get into?
A:Easier being relative, sometimes it's harder with buddies, more opportunities for things to go wrong in the words of Riddick. All jokes aside, it's built so you can solo or you can rock with your ai buddies offline no problem. All of these playstyles have pro’s and con’s but the dream was to bring back the OG, not the ones where it's impossible to even carry out the objective if its only Ai or solo. Hopefully that helps!
The trailer on youtube looked really cool and I was super close to clicking off when I heard it was a coop game.
Fully agree, they need to specify that it allows solo offline play.
That's another whole category of players that might skip it entirely if they're thinking it's forced coop online only.
Later edit: I'm still skeptical that it won't need a persistent connection to the servers. If it is truly playable offline without a server connection then it's a day 1 buy from me.
This game would be tagged as Single-player if it didn't require internet connection and/or 3 other players.
If I can't play it offline, I'm skipping this game as well, I'm tired of games like "The Crew" dying and shutting down servers leaving me with nothing.
yeah you are right tho im online a good bit and most of the stuff i do is around discord so it does make sense when put that way.
they do have "burst frequency" just tidbits and trailers etc, so hopefully they shed more light on it.
Next burst is in 10 or so days.
Stop crying until you learn more about it.,
This is actually a rather common problem - people are confused and complain in discussion forums (and probably many more do not even bother and straight out set the game to ignore and move on) because many devs tend to emphasize their game is co-op on the Steam store page (as they assume all potential players view that as a positive feature) and forget to make it clear if solo play is possible and how is it approached.
Solo players do not view the co-op tag as a good thing but as a warning sign the game might not be playable solo at all or in some limited way only. Devs and publishers (in general) should learn to advertise clearly how their games approach solo play (so potential customers do not need to go searching for this info to forums, faqs or even discord etc. - because many won't)
So in case of this game, the info about possible solo play and AI bots should be included at the top of the Steam store page in the short description - following right after "The Forever Winter is a co-op tactical survival horror shooter where you and your squad" - because otherwise that is where many less persistent solo players stop reading and give up on the game - a few will make it here to Steam forums searching for clear answer but I doubt anyone will go so far as to look for this basic answer at discord.
Anyways, I am glad solo is part of the vision (and thanks Sol Invictus for sharing the info here), so Wishlist it is.
