Continue game restarted me

So i just got finished with the treasure hunting tape and gave the monster the rooster because of the first tape. I guess that was wrong and it killed me. I dont remember if it took me to the home screen or i quit to it, but i stopped to go eat. I launched the game and hit continue only for the game to reset me back to the first puzzle. Has this happened to anyone else.
