Anti-Matter Generator Questions
Alright, last one for today, lol...

AM generators say that if they take damage, they explode. Now... does this mean that any hex upon taking any amount of damage causes it to explode? Does it mean that when the CORE hex takes any amount of damage it explodes? Or does a hex or the core need to be DESTROYED to cause the generator to explode?

Also, with that in mind - does anyone actually use AM generators? Are they worth that risk?

Anti-Matter Generators will explode is the Core hex takes any damage.

No one uses them in any serious design, there simply not practical anymore, it use to be that they didnt destroy your ship upon taking damage and they had other benefits as well, but now they dont.

Perhaps if someone were making a really tanky ship and surrounded it in some amazing defense then it would be viable.

Ahh... yeah, no. Too many weapons cut right through a ship... you'd have to like... double wall that bad boy in crystal armor or something :(

Antimatter would still make some sense with heavy shield designs, except that there are certain weapons that just outright ignore shields (like Warheads). I've been addressing this in DOF (where sheilds can also be much stronger as well) and they do seem to be more useful yet in that context.

AM does not explode if the core hex takes any damage.
It explodes when the core hex is destroyed.
This means it can be used safely with anything that provides a health increase.
Namely the following for general play:
Bulkheads - Increased cost but able to be grabbed very early and cheaply even if you dont take that path much further.
NanoMesh - Increases health by a nice bit for AM.

For hull specifics it is more reliable and safe on:
Destroyer Hull - 6x Health
Sations - 4x Health
Carrier - 2x Healh

For hulls you should avoid it on:
Titants
Collusus
Both due to the much lower health a single hex has for these making it a lot harder to offset

I always use Anti-Matter Generators and haven't had any problems. Maybe it's because I haven't played multi-player yet?

Collosus seems like an odd hull type to me. Kind of redundant with Titan, no?

I can understand that point of view, but there are some other differences between the two beyond just size. Really though, I'd say the Colossus Hull is mainly to satisfy those who really enjoy ship designing and big later-game ships.

Thanks for the HP info, Illyia!

The larger hulls let you build more complex ships. You can fit a lot of different systems on it compared to just the default ones.
