This sucks as playing the game in 4k is impossible because the game lacks a scaling UI and reducing the resolution fails for exact the described reason. I guess you aren't going to realize that screens with FullHD are a dying breed?
There are hotkeys for scaling the UI. Ctrl +/-
I'm not sure why you guys are having trouble getting it to run in the resolution of your monitor (I can just select the proper resolution in the options and done) but the statement about UI scaling is just false.
Try running it in a window (uncheck "Fullscreen") but at your full monitor resolution. I don't have any issues doing that for 1440p on my end and I really only miss out on the top window border worth of screenspace. In exchange, I get free tabbing out to other windows when I want without mode switches.
The game runs at the resolution of my TV, that's the problem. I play on a 4k TV about 1,7 meters in front of me. That's fine in most cases, but it sucks if a game was optimized to be played on a monitor a few centimeters in front of you and a 1080p resolution. If I could get the game started at 1080p FULLSCREEN it would also work out for me, but the game tries fullscreen and ends up windowed in the top left border whenever I choose a smaller resolution than 2160p.
