Do not expect the best Castlevania though, it's closer to God Of War than it is to an IGAvania. I'm a huge fan of the 2D era and played countless times through every GBA and DS games, as well as SotN of course. I didn't buy this game in the past, despite the fact that I own a 3DS, because I kinda was afraid of trying it. Now, for 2 bucks, you can't possibly go wrong and might give the game a try as I gonna do.
EDIT : I played the first hour, and it isn't bad. The game is nice looking for an old 3DS game, some backgrounds are really nice and capture the Castlevania essence well. As I expected, the combat system is a lot of button mashing, like in a beat'em all but if you know it you can't blame the game. Do not expect a cat to be a cow. As for the story, I think you don't need to play Lors of Shadow first, as the game completely spoils you the ending of the first game in the 5 first minutes. If you don't mind that, then you'll be up to enjoy the story, and it seems to fit well into the Castlevania mythology. For the moment it bodes well, it might even be better than Metroid : Samus Returns, the last comparable game from the same developers.
Just tested it for you, yes it has controller support but only Xinput, not Dinput
As long as you have a modern controller like an xbox 360 or xbox one controller you'll be fine
Or you know, just lauch the game one time trough big picture and boom, you can use all the controllers ypu want. I'm playing with a dualshock 4 for example, with rumble and everything, and no 3rd party programs.
Remember that you can play any steam game using this method with any controller you want and no problems. There're no "only xbox pads work" anymore on steam.
(For the record, I'm using a wired 360 controller that worked perfectly before, but is now crapping out after I teleport?!)
