Game-Breaking Economy Problems
I'm Liberia, a third world, going on first world nation in Africa. I'm making about 500 million dollars per year, and everything is OK. Inflation is at 2%, the economy is growing, approval in the high 80's...

Then I suddenly lose 800 million dollars in 3 HOURS (in-game). No disaster, no wars, no embargoes. It doesn't come back.

Holy $&@*, I'm running a deficit. Let's cut back on some healthcare and foreign aid...

There we go. About 300 million in the green.

Whoa, whoa WHOA. After two days, I'm -200 million in the red. Okaay then.

Let's invest in production-I have the spare money in my balance. I boost grains, hoping to produce some more resources.

Then, resource production drops by about 6%, economic health goes down by about 8%, and I am about 300 million more in debt.

This all happened in the course of about three days.

What am I doing wrong?

Not sure about what might be causing that. Maybe Autarky? What year are you in?

I'm in 2006, and top countries like the US and China are still churning out trillions of dollars thanks to trade. My fellow African nations are not resource independant. Neither is Eastern Europe or Southeast Asia.

Okay, so that means that its not Autarky...
I remember that something similar happened to me with Italy, but loooooooooong before the Steam release. Are you using any mods?

At some point in (early) game i've noticed that trading crashes for every nation i ever played with. Maybe a economic crash is programmed to happen?

Seems like you've lost massive amounts of production to a foreigner. Either that, or you're state controlled and importing a lot of goods.

Well, my entire economy is free market based, so I guess the US roflstomped me into oblivion. But how do I stop things like this from occuring again?
you lost a market of some resources
