Germany is pretty good, I used to play this a bit, and I'd usually take 6-8 years to become biggest eco and own europe.

I've found it easy to play Singapore. Just defund environment in addition to Research and Foreign Aid since you hardly have agriculture and instead invest in Education and Healthcare. After that just sign a common market with nearby Indonesia and you'll be making money in no time!

Edit: When you say easiest I assumed it meant getting or staying out of debt, otherwise probably the US or some European nation if you want to make the most money with a little more effort.
