MyCareer Questions
Ok so this is my first NBA 2k game I've purchased. So I'm a little new to the series.
QUESTIONS:

1) How does the coach happiness work? Like for example, during play when he gives you a play strategy, does it only count THAT or does it pretty much count the entire game you play? I've never been able to achieve a full A+ with the guy and sometimes, he just seems to be a picky a**.
2) What irritates me more than anything is this: "Allowed Man to Score" when I was clearly next to him attempting to block. Annoying ::RAGE:: Sometimes it counts my block attempt, but mostly, it doesn't. Does this happen to anyone else? If not, can I get some tips?

Overall, I love this game. 2K is genius.

1) I'm pretty sure it counts only while that strategy is in effect, you'll even see a "cancelled" or "completed" event and then see either a green or a red coach grade.

2) Sometimes I even got "Bad block attempt" or "Allowed man to score" AND "Good shot defense" at the SAME time. So yeah, it's not perfect...

1) Set Screens at times to help out teammates. When you see the ball handler not far from you. Go near him and set screens, you will see that the ball handler will go around or do some movement. Mostly for star player it seems. Set screens is the easiest of all to get good grades.

2) Try to achieve the objectives set by the coach. If the coach says no 3s, means no 3s, protect the paint , u have to protect.

3) Defend, block, steal, movement, create spacing, shoot when open, grab rebounds, set screens, all these will add up grades.

I achieve mostly A+ or As with these.

Also, it helps to play full games or at least more than the default 6 minutes. You will have more chances to get better grades and more points/rebs/ast/etc...

Oh yeah, it often gets confused as to whom you're supposed to be guarding. For example, your teammate double teams your guy and cpu decides you're supposed to be guarding the guy your teammate just left all alone, he shoots and scores, and it's your fault.

But in 12 minute games I get way above the A+ rating, so I just stopped caring about those little silly things.

Thanks guys!

And yes, this is the first basketball game I've played, really. And I do have "Who To Guard" enabled in the options, but it tends to jump from opponent to opponent at times and I get the "Leave Assignment" penalty cause I can't jump back and forth fast enough lol. But hey, I stil have fun with it.

Hi

I was like you getting confused when I started playing. How the hell to dribble, crossover, set screen etc.

My advice get a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ controller rather than using a keyboard.

Look at the tutorials. For me I am using logitech controller i have LT,LS etc and buttons like A,B,X,Y

LS = the one like joystick, is your movement. RS is your actions like shooting , layups etc.

EG: if setting a screen, Press B. You will see your player standing still with both hands in front. This is a great way to get good grades consistently.

Cross over when ball handling move your LS to your right or left and quick release.

When near the inside Press RT to Splint and LS to control your movement and RS( any 4 directions will have different layups styles.)

You will have to play scrimmage with your teams mates to try out the movements and stuffs, 5 V 5

What's worse is that many times, the outcomes are as predetermined/slanted as pro wrestling. You'll be in a playoff series, doing the same things you did, and suddenly the opponent plays god-like ball. The ways they use 'catchup code' or 'keeping the score where they want it' are utterly ridiculous, as always. If the AI wants you to lose, you will. If the AI wants you to win close, you will. I've basically sat around and watched when I knew it was set to 'win by 1-3 points', when we were down 1, and voila, teammates start getting hot to catch up.

To reverse it, if you go up 5-7 in this, the other team will go NUTS to get it to that zone. You can tell that's their 'stabilization' zone that was preset before the matchup according to circumstances. Basically they think that people want close, hot games instead of 'what gameplay dictates' so you're just rolling dice against a predetermined window of points. 2K forums all over talk about this kind of cheese that happens; most of the cheese is basically trying to lure you in with closely contested games and blah blah blah, the way it does it is by cheesing instead of basing it off your gameplay. In much older 2K games you actually had the option to turn this off: it was called 'Catchup Code' and it STILL EXISTS (albeit much more complex) today.

I've not made it to the playoffs yet.
I'm using my PlayStation 3 controller through bluetooth.
I've gotten pretty decent.

I was on the Nuggets and Ty Lawson would try 5-6 lobs a GAME to Faried, and ZERO would hit. Zero. None. In 5 games, I think ONE actually hit and that's because it was on a fast break and it actually ragdolled into the hoop or whatever off a strange tip from Kenneth's fingers. Still zero actual lob dunks. And he KEEPS throwing it. Plus Lawson has the Lob City badge. He's missed this over some unbelievably bad/slow defenders, 2nd stringers, 2nd round draft newbs, people with very low athleticism, and it's FARIED. He could easily get at least half of these if the (ANY) AI defender didnt have perfect reaction time and super-jump to tip every lob. Then you come back the other way and the AI has a perfect possession 80-95% of the time, guys in 68-75 SG/SF territory suddenly become Jordan, and anyone in the 80s becomes KD, anyone who's an actual star (D-Rose, Lillard, Melo, Bron) become INSANE and never cool down. Despite the fact that you have to suffer through the garbage 'shot fatigue'.

Its truly unbelievable how bad they took a dump on mycareer/myplayer, thinking the fans wouldn't see its scripted as hell, forcing 'Catchup Code' in. It sucks. If i play well enough to win by 50, let me win by 50. If you can't figure out how to beat me on Superstar and I win by 10, let it happen. Don't force the CPU to come back with stuff thats illogical, unreasonable, cheese or pathetically impossible. Plus, a playmaker like Lawson would STOP throwing the lobs if he figures that every low-post defender in the NBA can snap-react and stop them. So why aren't they adjusting during My Career? He should be giving it up, even though Faried should catch them. I've seen the same thing happen to other teams too.

Another thing that really gets on my nerves in this game is all the loading screens. Instead of just regular menus, they had to make them all flashy. MyCareer couldn't just have a practice option in the menu, nope, the menu has to be on the court, meaning it loads more than necessary almost every time. Again, terrible game design.

I get annoyed at all the waiting to get subbed in after clicking to skip, because everyone wants to skip so they can freaking watch the AI play until they get put on the court. Great design choice, yet again! Oh and of course, you're defending, holding down LT on someone, then suddenly get smacked with a "Left assignment" message.. excellent, thanks for the down rating out of nowhere, game..

I'm also SICK and TIRED of the "Call for pass ignored" message.. just because I want to skip forward to the actual gameplay, instead of watching some stupid sequence I have no interest in watching. Whoever figured the A button should be a skip and a call for the ball, is obviously intellectually challenged. How can people love this game, when it has so much crummy gameplay and design choices.

Agree with you on almost all points, but I love the game of BB and unfortunately 2k is the only nba game on market, so not much choice no competition for them to be better either. It sucks, drives me crazy sometimes. Especialy the video sequence after a score, when you want to stay upfront pressing your opponent and after sequence your player is past midcourt, where he can maximaly scratch his b..., no chance to get a quick steal and score.

It is funny how unrealistic some stuff are.

I created 5 foot 10 tall skinny, butterfinger SG. Who can't shoot nor do anything useful to help team. Basicly the worst NBA player ever.

First i sailed to Pelicans and did my thing there for a short while. They tossed me to Timberwolves and man. Timbers were on awe, when they saw my skills (lack of it) and they signed me on season.

I was baffled and same time laughing this bizarre moment. Why they even hired my dude?
