Do you just sim the games or play it.. and is it similar to MyLeague when getting VC?

Yah, I get 1200-1600ish VC per my career game. Getting VC isn't too challenging, just time consuming. Which I assume is their intention, hence the cash shop.

I haven't played any other game modes than Quick Games in NBA Today and MyGM. I don't sim, I play HoF with 50/50 sliders and 12 minute quarters. Every loss is accepted and every win is savored.

Could also be making some VC off of Quick Games?

Sort of. You have 100 upgrades total you can apply in total. If you are a fresh rookie, you only apply some of these at first (60? 70?) so you will be pretty good but not 90+ probably.
