Okay guys,

Those of you who have the game running, and are able to use the online features, could you do me a favour and check your installation folder for a file called 'steam_api.ini'.

If you have that file, let me know - I can't load the game past the splash screen without the file, but when I use the file from the pirated crack - it loads, but won't connect to the online features.

I'm wondering whether the issue is that we don't have the right file, and the pirated file has somehow blocked the internet facility.

You said you managed to launch the game by doing that? I tried using that .ini file as well at one point, but it didn't do anything for me.

Yeah, I managed to launch into the game with the cracked steam_api.ini file from 'Reloaded'.

The game booted in, but wouldn't connect to the servers. It attempted for a while, then just returned to the main screen, which makes me wonder whether Reloaded did something to the file to prohibit internet access.

My thoughts are that it's possible some of us didn't get the file in the download, for whatever reason, and it's still missing even after a file verification. That missing file might be prohibiting us from getting past the bit where the game looks for, and loads, the user ID.

I don't know, man... I don't think that's the problem. I tried using that .ini file from Reloaded as well, and nothing has changed for me. It still won't launch, doesn't matter if I try it in online or offline mode.

Hey, glad it works for you. At least you get to play the game offline while we wait for 2K to fix things. I am at the end of my wits right now... I've been reading and trying EVERYTHING since I bought and downloaded the game yesterday, and I still haven't been able to launch it at all. Very disheartening.

Have you tried to copy ALL of the crack over? The cracked .exe, .dll and .ini? That can sometimes work, too.

Which makes me think they've ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up in one of those, too!

Yeah, I also tried that and it didn't work either.

I'm going to reinstall the Steam client now and see if that does the trick. It's pretty much the only thing I've read about that I haven't tried yet.

Someone, somewhere, has fudged up - I just don't think either will admit blame, and I don't think either will resolve the issue before next week.

One thing's for certain. No way I'm buying the next 2K until I make sure that people are not having these issues. I was looking forward to a full weekend of playing the new NBA 2K, and what I've gotten so far is a full weekend of looking for fixes all over the net.

Needless to say that if this NEVER gets fixed, this will be the last 2K product I purchase and I'll start giving them the Pirate Bay treatment.

Same here. 2K won't get another penny of my money unless they deal with this and apologise in a BIG way. And even then, that money will be spent a month after release, in a sale, at least.
