It's not Steam's fault.
Steam has NO CONTROL over the prices on here unless its a Valve game. 2K sets the prices. Even if you see a game go onsale on Steam (i.e. Daily Deals, Winter Sale, etc), that price is decided by the publisher. This game has been $59.99 in the US region since the day it appeared as a pre-order on Steam. Focus your anger towards 2K.
As for why its gone up? My guess is that they want people in every region to pay the same price and with all the new currencies on Steam being accepted, 2K wanted the price to be the same for every region rather than regional pricing (i.e. Mexico and Russia typically get games cheaper than the US). Its not fair to raise the price IMO, but Steam have to abide by the publisher's wishes due to contractual obligations.
If you see a price on Steam that you like, BUY IMMEDIATELY unless you are going to wait for a sale price. Don't wait if you can afford it. Once you have the game in your library, they're not going to take it away (unless you use a stolen credit card or something like that) or make you pay more.
They have another reason to make it $60.... there's literally no other NBA games for the PC platform. When you're the only one with a particular game-type, you can rake in the cash.
You don't even have to wait that long. I preordered for $45 on Greenmangaming (an authorized seller) with the 25% off coupon on their front page.
That's not what the thread's about. It was around 33USD for SEA countries yesterday, and now it's around 44USD. If they priced it at 44USD after the currency changes, there would be no problems. But now I feel cheated because they never announced that they were going to be increasing the prices.
They had the pricing right before. PC is too competitive for 60 dollar sports games. There are too many other good games on PC, it's not like consoles. lol For 60 I can get 6 nice games or 2 great ones.
The difference is that this year's title is closer to its "next gen" console cousin (PS4/Xbone) and is missing only 1 feature that those two have (that Face thing to put your own face in the game), otherwise they're the same game as the new console versions. Last years and years prior were ports of the 360/PS3 version and was missing features those versions had. I can understand the reasoning why this version is pricier out of the gate and why it was cheaper the past few years. T
That said, there's more than a few places to get this on pre-order cheaper than 59.99 (i.e. my post above), and no doubt places like Amazon and even Steam itself will have it marked down about 6 weeks after release when Black Friday sales happen etc.
No one should pay 59.99 for this at any time. There's no reason to if you shop around.
Crazy part is people dont believe it and its posted all around that nba 2k15 on pc will be 99% of the current consoles ps4/xbox one with the 1% off with face scan. That alone is big due to 2k13/2k14 got it guts ripped out and 2k14 on pc didnt even have the next gen graphics.
It's quite simple.
2k14: 1/2 game = 1/2 price
2k15: full game = full price
The price went up from previous games because they're putting more in this one. They had been essentially selling the game at a price equal to the amount of content in the game.
