2 miniguns on opposite sides at mid level: to either help out with boss(cavernous) or kill long range shooters that linger at that height(frost)
Hopefully you get up those watchtowers up quick on this type of run
And a drone.
Mainly using lots of defensive machine gun
Do you mean the machinegun watchtowers? Absolutely 👍
But more important for this challenge than what towers you build, is probably to dig down quickly. The faster you can finish the mission, the less waves and tough enemies you have to deal with. If you can dig fast enough to go one dig down every morning, it should be no problem.
Use radar to spot the coal and focus your digging on that, should help a lot!
Machine gun only hit single target per bullet
Its a trade off and when in doubt, rocket watchtowers first makes most sense(they are best overall) but their meandering launch pattern often misses small stragglers at their final hovering point, just above layer 1. And given layer 1 also becomes the last layer still able to do damage to those kinda targets, the consistent spread and higher close range dps(even if not exactly AoE) is where machinegun actually shines.
Sadly, end up having to pay much more per rocket watchtower later this way but but by then I usually have swift base to make them even better when I finally do get them. I’m still debating the logistics on this but I guess can go either way.
And build some night-ability buildings that let you take bites out of the incoming swarm. Drone base is my favourite, because it is fire and forget.
Then sprint to the required depth and get the hell out of there.
