Alternative Miner AI appreciation thread.
Getting paid per mineral, not per hour.

And they're finally acting like it, i would recommend making this their default behavior because the normal miner AI is just super frustrating.

For anyone who doesn't know, like me until yesterday: In the options from the main menu is a toggle to use the alternative AI

I've never tried it... what's the difference?

Miners prefer to mine patches that are near them instead of going to the other end of the mine whenever possible

THAT'S AMAZING

why would that be an option and not the default?

Update: ehhhhh it's still not great

this is how it should work:

when mining high-priority tile: IGNORE ALL OTHER TILE ASSIGNMENTS and KEEP DOING IT unless in danger.

when mining a regular-priority tile: regularly search within ~5 tiles (by movement, NOT distance) for high-priority tiles. if one is found, switch to that. otherwise keep doing what you're doing unless in danger.

when not mining: mine the closest high-priority tile (by movement, NOT distance). if none are found, mine the closest regular-priority tile. if none found, just stay where you are unless in danger.

---

the thing that bothers me the most is when miners mining high-priority tiles change what they're doing when i flag tiles elsewhere. they should absolutely under no circumstances be doing that. if i want them to stop, i can remove the high-priority flag.

Yeah there are definitely still kinks to be ironed out, but the default behavior is just abysmal.
Control Sep 14, 2024 @ 4:13am
Both AIs are the worst I've seen in these type of games where you don't have direct control of each unit. Either give us control or just do it right. I know pathing and priority can get very complex, but heck, just look how similar games like Oxygen no included do their AI and copy it. It's pretty frustrating to see a miner in the left go all the way right to mine something whilst a miner on the right goes to the left to mine something else.

I was about to make a report that the AI sucks and should be proximity based. Hopefully this will improve it.

this thread should always be on top. That change all my gameplay

thanks

Even the alternative AI is broken sadly.

I've tried alternative and regular and they still constantly move to the other side of the mine. Every miner seems to mine a block, then swap sides as opposed to just mining the next block next to them.

Works fine for me. You just need to micromanage it more instead of assigning every block to be mined.

At this point we are putting so much effort into tard wrangling the AI, that they should just let us control the miners directly, with an option to let them do what they want.

I've just been mining out one area at a time instead of flagging blocks on opposite sides of the map. Works like a charm.
