BIKE HANDLING

  • Gamepad is highly recommended!! (360 version/Rock Candy brand $24.99)

Both joysticks are utilized for riding:

    ○ Left Joy "handlebars/steering"

    ○ Right Joy "Rider Reflex"

(Don't switch to single joystick controls)

    Steering:
▪Turns your handlebars left or right..

    Rider Reflex:
▪This is your body position on the bike. Lean backwards will help you do a wheelie etc!

▪Pull back on Rider Reflex to gain better traction throughout the track(see new riders slipping and swerving alot due to not leaning back)

  • Use Dual Sticks!!

▪No matter how frustrating or alien it may feel, learn to use dual sticks.

▪It wil pay off down the road (at first it may be a hassle and cause the slippery affect/low traction).

  • Rider Reflex!!

▪Use Rider Reflex to enhance the ride.

▪Don't constantly apply pressure until you learn how it operates.

▪Example: Apply pressure to the rear when coming out of a turn and also crossing whoops.

*Scroll down in this thread and I'm sure at some point we/I will explain Rider Reflex and or all of these topics in detail

  • Bike Upgrades!! (performance only)

    Fastest Unlock Sequence
    [SX Career, 3 Lap Races]

▪2 SX RACES: TIRES + BRAKES

    ▪6 SX RACES: SUSPENSION

▪12 SX RACES: EXHAUST/CHASSIS + a new set of TIRES (Maxxis brand can be selected for various terrain). I think tires are the only performance upgrade that brand matters, and thats only bc of terrain, sand/mud/sx/mx etc (may be wrong)

*Fully upgraded bike = Drastically different and ofcourse better physics/speed.

  • Bike Unlocks!!

2 options to unlock the 450cc class

▪Complete the 250cc East & West Supercross "Career" to unlock the 450cc Championship/Bikes.

▪Complete the 250cc Nationals "Career" to unlock 450cc bikes.

Note: You can't race a 450cc on a career mode until you complete the 250cc career, so if you unlock the 450cc on nationals, you still need to complete 250 supercross to run your 450 on supercross and vice versa- hope that makes since)

▪650cc - Beat the Mx vs Atv career, all of it ;)

  • Preload!!

▪Pull back on Rider Reflex just before and while going up the ramp.

▪As soon as the rear is at the top/leaves the jump, immediatly shift forward on rider reflex.

▪Preload is not something you want to do on everyjump, use it when you know you need the extra boost.

  • Clutch!! (most clutch work is a simple "tap" while holding the throttle)

▪On race start "hold" the clutch, then release the clutch as soon as the gate drops!

▪As soon as you are coming out of a corner, tap the clutch.

▪Tap the clutch any other time you lose speed, to regain it quicker.(like hitting a barrier)

▪Tap when landing if you are not carrying enough speed (some say do everytime)

▪Keep speed up by staying wide on the track. (The Outside)

▪From a dead stop only 2 taps of the clutch needed to be plenty fast.
▪Pop clutch with throttle to get rolling and another a half second later or so.

    Rhythm + Timing

  • Moto/Supercross!!

▪Tracks are designed to make you adjust speed.

    ▪Some jumps require full speed

▪Some require you to back off the throttle

▪These tracks are not full throttle like a nascar race.

▪Require you to learn the track for a better and faster experience.

▪You will more than likely not enjoy the tracks and races as much if you dont learn the timing/rhythm of the jumps.

▪Keep speed up by staying wide on the track (the outside)

▪Plenty more to be said about doubles, triples, table tops etc, but this is just a general start.

¿Want to be fast enough for online racing? scroll down to chupachug's comments or look at the "Advanced Race Techniques".

  • Landing Ramps!!

▪You always want to land on a downward slope(landing ramp).

▪If you miss the landing ramp, then your timing is off.

▪This is an easy way to note your knowledge of the track.(obviously in somecases, bc its a game, u will land flat and it won't matter at all)

▪If you are landing short(back or top of the landing ramp), then you need to slow down and land on the previous landing ramp or get a faster line and clear the landing ramp that you prefer.

    ETC, ETC, ETC

    Transmission

    ▪Learn the game on automatic

▪Once you get comfortable with dual sticks, manual is fastest

▪Launch in 1st gear, shift up to 5th

▪Stay in 5th unless you lose most of your momentum.

    Wheelies!

▪Lean back on "Rider Reflex" and gas it!

    Stoppies

▪Lean forward on "Rider Reflex" and slam the brakes!

    Back Flips
▪Lean back while holding the trick button(right button for me) and go up and off the ramp as usual.

    Backflip rotating too fast?
▪Lean forward during rotation to slow you down.

    WHIPS & SCRUBS] (basics)

▪Just before take off(basically at takeoff), lean(left stic and steer the direction you wish to whip or scrub.

▪The fluid motion of a whip is not built in to any mx vs atv game and requires you to help it along.

▪Once it whips the tail of the bike sideways, you need to help it come back(it will do alot on its own)

    **Easiest/Fastest way to "start/learn" doing scrubs/whips**

1)As you are going up the ramp, flick both joysticks either to the left or right at the same time.

2)Watch whips/scrubs on youtube(real riders or game) and mimick then after using fast tip #1

[more to be said later on this and I'm sure others will chime in.]

ONLINE + ADVANCED TECHNIQUES FOR SPEED

    Voice Chat

▪Voice Chat settings can be found in the "settings" tab, before launching the game.

▪Sick of hearing everyone talk or make noise? key "M" will mute chat!

▪"Push to Talk" is recommended so we don't hear your family argue in the background ;)

    Chupachug's "WARP SPEED"

Online racing can be intimidating bc the seasoned riders know how to:

▪Keep the SPEED up + PRE-LOAD where needed, which allows them to clear large sections of rhythm.
(don't be intimidated and leave the race, you should join us even if to see what the fast riders are doing!!)

    SPEED:
▪Keep up your speed by applying pressure to rear wheel(rider reflex/pull back)

▪This allows the bike to get better traction and avoids the slippery/ice feel some mention.

▪Stay to the "outside" lane to keep speed constant. In the turns this wil allow you to do a longer but faster/smooth sweep and will set you up faster for the next section!

(note: sometimes utilizing the inside lane is smart but only when your matching your opponents speed and need to use such a technique to get ahead(mainly nationals/not sx)

    PRE-LOAD:
▪When you are at "warp" speed (term by chupa), pre load the heck out of the next jump and see where you end up.

▪If u land into the back side of a "landing ramp", then you have overstepped the bikes abilities or you need to try a faster approach!

▪The pre-load test and high speeds should be tested during practice and you with naturally start to memorize where in the track this is required.

    ONLINE RACING:
▪These techniques will be required to keep up with the faster riders

▪You will need to learn to carry speed and jump as far as you possibly can.

▪You will need to this 99% of the time. With that said there are spots on each track that will require you "know" not to over do it (lets say a small double in a left hand turn).

    SCRUBS:
▪This will be updated at some point, but the general idea is to keep the bike from gaining to much air, which will slow you down compared to someone who is getting their tires back on the ground before you do! *You Tube, scrubs.

(ex: alot of times gamers will think "drifting" is a faster approach in a car racng game/sim, but when the tires are breaking traction, they are not gaining ground. Scrubs are similiar theory but for mx)

More detailed explanations welcome, please post! timing/whips/rider reflex etc.

vv Most important in my opinion vv

Put in enough time to max all the upgrades on your bike and put in enough time to be comfortable with dual stick riding. At this point, make an opinion on the series. Enjoy!

Should probably add how to unlock the bigger bikes also.

250 east and west championships for the 450s
450 championship for the 650s
Beating the 450 championship does not unlock the 650.
650 is after all careers completed or do you know?
small update about voice.. I hear people complain about voice chat and others making too much noice. VOIP settings are in pre launch settings and you can disable the voip or just hit key M when someone is spamming the mic.. M is mute
Im gonna have to disagree about the tracks not being WFO the whole time, they are if your doing it right, its not very often i have to slow down to go faster(even then, its just me slamming on the brakes on the face of a triple). The best i can say is just flow, ride wider lines(in supercross) and learn to keep the reflex stick down( as in leaning back to wheelie) most the time. When turning ive found its best to not use the reflex stick UNLESS you have to cut down sharp to avoid someone( or a tuff block) but you do wanna have reflex stick down( again leaning back to wheelie) when you can to keep you WFO around the turns( it is a advanced method but once you get used to doing it, it is MUCH faster). I hope this makes sense, its early in the morn and i havent had my coffee yet!

Also, feel free to ask me any questions about going faster, its hard for me to put into words some of the things i do as most are just something i do w/o thinking about it but i will try my best to help. Its also hard for me to "slow down" to show folks my lines and jump combo's because of the flow required to achieve warp speeds.

Hey Chupa. Yea your 100% right, but this is for beginners to the series so them "understanding" the rhythm of the track etc is the idea. I will definitely get your input on the advanced supercross techniques. Your the fastest I've seen on track so it's obvious your right. I also push it 100% wide open when competing with you guys. But once again this is a starters post, I'll make an advanced section in the original post at some point. Thx for your input, I need it to keep up!! Ha
yup understand that, but if they start applying those methods just starting out, will be much easier ( and therefore faster) to accomplish warp speed.

And thx Chupa, this post is definitely not about my opinion.. just tryin to help. I am not fully knowledgeable on the content but I do want to help keep new riders from being as frustrated and also grow a community of good racers for later chamionships etc!!

And like you said, "It's hard to put into words some of the things I do".. and I am right there with you so the input from everyone will make the original post accurate and helpful.

Everyone is welcome to point out anything they see that needs adjusting /added!

I would also like to point out that real life riding tips also apply to the game, same with real life riding techniques. Sadly, there is no separate front and back brake.

Yes, I agree with you. I actually prefer to refer to real life tips when I can, some I havent(yet)bc its a starter thread to a "guide" that i would like to put together in more detail pics/vids, referances to real life etc. You are always welcome to post some info and ill work it in where necessary :)

On the front/back brake, from my experiences with the series. Rainbow has always seemed to meet the middle road of realistic and arcade.. I am a huge simulator fan, so trust me I want a front and back brake also, but its not something that they have ever really had in the series. Those details would make it more a sim and take it from the arcade/sim it is.

Would be nice if simulation was an option in the menu for people who wanted to deal with all the details, im with ya man.
