Issue trying to edit rider

I haven't changed the info for my rider for many months. Decided to change things up today.

I changed the gear no problem, and bike stuff, but when i went to change the name and rider number I couldn't. The modal pops up and I see the existing text but I can't find a way to get the cursor up to change it and I also cannot exit the modal window or do anything else. i have to alt/tab out and 'end task'. there's no way to move forward or back once i try.

No changes have been made to it. It should function as it always has.
It does require a mouse and keyboard to select the field and enter data. The modal can then be dismissed by pressing A on the gamepad or Enter on the Keyboard while one of the fields are focused, or by clicking on Select in the modal.

yeah i know that's how it's supposed to (and always had) worked. but now if I bring that modal up i can't get back out no matter what. using keyboard or controller. it's bizarre.

i rebooted to start fresh and it was the same issue.

it's really not a major problem, it's the first time I even tried to change it since installing the game several hundred house of playing ago

What happens when you click "Select" with the mouse?

Nothing. Once the modal opens no buttons/keyboard work. i can't hit 'B' to backout either.

the only way i can do anything is to alt/tab out of the game and do an 'end task' in task manager.

The controller has no functionality in the menu until one of the fields is selected.
D-Pad affects typing cursor.
B button backspaces.
A button accepts "selects".

The fact that you cannot use the mouse to select the fields or Select, is concerning. We've tried to reproduce the issue here, but cannot.

Any chance you could send us a video?

Have you tried any of your standard IT fixes. Unplug peripherals then plug them back in? Restart computer? Etc.

I'd be happy to help, but I'm not sure what you'd see in a video other than a screen with a modal popping up and nothing else.

Do you me having someone film me so you can see what i'm doing with the keyboard and mouse?

As for IT stuff, yeah I'm safe there, I've been a network engineer for 27 years so that's my game. I don't THINK it's related to anything O/S based. The only thing I think would be possible there is if my keyboard was losing connection, but i can use it fine to navigate the menus with no controller at all. it's only when i try to edit the rider data.

Yeah, figured as much for the IT stuff, given your experience.
No need to record anything. We have someone here who is able to reproduce it.

A few questions to contrast and compare...
When launching the game, are you getting the DX, DLL, and VS install popup?
Are you using any software or registry changes that are/might directly affect rendering or input? (Radeon Settings, VR hacks, etc.)
Are you launching the game from the normal Steam Library or Big Picture?
When arriving at the Title Screen, are you using the Keyboard or Controller to reach the Main Menu?
Do you have mouse functionality at the Main Menu or any other menus?

If you launch the game with only Mouse and Keyboard, are you able to interact with the menus? with the Rider Name modal?

Welp you solved it. For whatever reason, if I don't touch the controller at all i can mouse through and click the 'left button' to edit the name. THEN i can edit it in the modal.

The first time I touch the controller it's over, no more mouse. I'm assuming it's an either/or.

in case you wanted the other answers, I am new to steam. i only have reflex and encore. Well yeras ago I tried sims for a little bit and f1 but that's a long time ago.

I don't use big picture, and I launch the game from a shortcut that calls a steam URL. it's faster that way, no need to select play or settings. goes right into the game.

It looks like I probably did the first edit before I got a controller, so I never ran into the issue. i know for a fact I've only changed the rider text once. so i think that's what happened.
