Carmageddon Max Pack

Carmageddon Max Pack

Any tips for more FPS?
So I have a fairly high end rig, but running this game on dosbox I only get about 17fps :(

Anybody got any tips? I tried following some of the guides I found on google and messed around with some of the dosbox settings but none of it seems to help with my fps

The best you can do is to probably play the low res DOS version (if you're using 3DFX) and wait for the Win95 patch. Also, a tip for anyone else, remember to turn off the mirror (by pressing 'M') to get better performance with the Cockpit view.

Ya I turned the mirror off because I noticed that uses alot of FPS when using the in-car view, and that's probably my favourite view to use :P

Ya the none 3DFX version runs smooth but I can't stand the low resolutions, I wouldn't mind if it was like 1024x768 but the res the non-3DFX is on atm is too low for my liking

Thanks for the help, will wait for the Win95 patch

The game is being emulated by DOSBox, which basically makes your computer into something released in 1998.

I was hoping for a simple 60 fps too, but obviously the game engine couldn't handle it.

Probably better looking on Gog's forum as that version of the game comes with DOSBox and has been out for much longer. Many more tips.

not sure but would increasing the dosbox cycles help ? I know I did this in various games in the past to speed things up :) Though that said, I have no lag at all on my pc... which is a state of the line machine with 32gb memory though...

It's a very old game running on very new hardware. You gotta expect problems. What you're seeing while playing is usually the engine running on max.

Yup I tried increasing cycles, didn't seem to help

If anyone who has got it configured perfect could they maybe post their config settings? :)

Here are my specs btw if that's any help

GTX 760 2GB
8GB ram
Intel Dual Core i5 3.20ghz
1TB HDD

Try not playing in 1920x1080.

I already tried lowering res, didn't make a slight bit of difference :-\

You will never get 60 fps in this game.
It hasn't been updated in any way, the game is being emulated.

Go to the steam folder, go to dosbox and run the Nglide application. set resolution as you want and force the refresh rate to 60 or above, set vertical sync off. (this is for the 3DFX version)

Ya I doubt I'd ever get it at 60, a solid 30 would be nice though, 17fps is just so 'ugh' >.<

I could of probably ran this game better on my old rig, thus is the problem with emulation, though dosbox has served me well with most of the games I emulate

Only other option to emulating old dos games as far as I could see, is possibly running Win95 on a virtualbox? But I know nothing about that and how easy or hard it is, still got my old Win95 disc lyin around somewhere as well :P

I can't oc my CPU because my motherboards bios won't let me, and even if I could I'm not going to overclock my CPU just for Carmageddon 1 :P

Carmageddon 2 runs fine anyway but this one is pretty chopped, maybe I'll just have to play non-3dfx version in future

Still waiting for the Win95 patch. :/

Perhaps they'll sort it out after Update 5 for Carma R.

Well i checked nglide options and unticked vsynch... Big difference.. And of course, turn in game mirror off by pressing M
