Can machines not assimilate biologicals anymore?

As far as i can remember before the DLC if you were a machine you could assimilate any biological into your own machine species can that not be done anymore if you are a machine? Atleast i can not find the option to do it anywhere.

Only assimilator machines can truly assimilate bio pops. (unless youre exterminator making zombies)

however any machine can use pops as grid networks or livestock so to speak.
Certain ascension paths also unlock assimilation as a species standard

Has it been changed did it not use to be that if your are machine then you can make any pop into your own population?

You need the civic Driven Assimilator.

nothing has changed, you just need the proper civics or playstyle/ascension depending what youre aiming for

Only organic empires with Synthetic Ascension can do that.

None of the actual Machine empires (Gestalt / Individualistic), never could.

Driven Assimilator can only assimilate organic pops into cyborgs to work as drones for them.

That makes sense, before going machine meant taking synthetic so i guess i never read that the tradition gives the option not just being machine.
