the season pass might be the first time I ever preorder anything
might buy it, once the dlc drops and it turns out to be good. I see it as me offering a little treat to the devs for their good work. :p03:

You get nothing from pre-ordering.

Also, Paradox isn't an indie company. You're not giving "a little treat" to anyone.

That's what it is though.

I misunderstood the length though.

You get Rick the Cube :D .

But yeah, the season pass is only worth it if you're planning to buy all the DLCs no matter what, you'll get a 20% discount that way. Otherwise, best to wait and pick only the DLCs you want, if you think you might only want 1 of the 3 :) .

Season pass is a one-time unlock for the next 3 DLCs permanently with a 20% discount on the normal prices.
The subscription is a monthly payment to rent all DLCs.

I believe they will reconsider their development road map after this hefty investment.

You should never pre-order anything, unless you're doing it when release is imminent. Paying a company before they've completed the product means that they've already received your payment. They now have no monetary incentive to actually finish or deliver a quality product, at least in regards to you. And even more so with DLC since DLC can't be refunded.

pre-order on steam does not pay the company in advance since steam will not release the fund until the product is out.
When you pre-order you just give steam more money for them until they pay it out to the producer on release.

Same difference, the money is still going to them even if they haven't received it yet, and you can't refund DLCs.

You can refund DLCs if you haven't played the game more than 2h (or also more than 14 days have passed I think) after its release if i'm not mistaken.

Huh, hadn't looked up that policy in a long time, must have been updated since the last time I looked.
