this really is a masterful game
not much else to say, other than this game is an extraordinary work of, what I am certain, was a lot of minds, diagramming, and planning.

Yes.

Lots of weighted randomness too.

However, Stellaris also underwent a radical change of the planet economy system in late 2018, and it's going to undergo another such change, of the same system, next month. The initial vision was imperfect, and the planetary grid approach was bad, but the Districts-and-Buildings system that replaced it in 2018 had some flaws.

It's so masterfully made that it needs to go through 4 iterations since no one can agree what's so good about it!
TBH, despite the near-constant changes, I prefer devs who can admit that their ideas aren't working, and try to make their game better.
I agree. Peeps complain about it easily, but if it weren't so amazing, they wouldn't even have anything to complain about!

I wouldn't go this far as to call it "masterful", since there are quite some things that don't work or work pretty poorly, but it has charme, soul and uniqueness about it and, most importantly, it is fun to play due to being able to roleplay in many different ways.
For me it's on par with Distant Worlds and Aurora4x and this is really high praise.

even though i had the base game for 3 years, i never played it because the one time i fired it up, i was overwhelmed and just gave up. But then a week ago I decided to give it another go, i bought pretty much all the gameplay DLC except for the "overwhelming negative" ones and once i got the hang of it, i really am impressed by it all. it's fantastic.
I can't agree more.
Game is pretty much perfect.
No idea how any stellaris 2 can ever happen,... or a competitor that does not suck.

I also view the massive overhauls a little different from others I guess. I don't just see them as "updating a flawed system", but also "changing the game enough to warrant another few playthroughs".
I don't agree with all the changes all the time, but more often than not, it is fun and new stuff to do in new ways. They keep it fresh.
Yes i love it too, i think after trying a lot of other x4 space games including Endless Space 2 , Galactic Civ 4 and some others like Distant Worlds 2 , that Stellaris achieved something very special. It is pure pleasure to create unique species here and use them in your gameplays.

Game is also very easy to play and leaves huge areas to master, for casual gamers like me (have so low ammount of free time due to rl work and things) its perfect.
I play vanilla as hunting for achievements is pure fun and i think its best paradox title next to crusader kings 3.

Do i wish for Stellaris 2? Maybe in few years, for now it will be sweet for PDX to upgrade engine to handle late games better. Im on very strong pc , with over 90gb of fast ram and strong gpu and sometimes on max galactic size with many discovered aliens i have strange slowdowns.

Other than this this is best PDX game and i think it is best game to enter PDX library of titles.
I just wish they'd stop trying to tell pre-written stories and get back to improving the emergent storytelling games like this are great for.
Also wish they could squash the bug that causes enemy ships to be invincible
