Start of game impossible with Noxious Breath?
So I just tried making an empire with a bunch of new toxoid stuff, including Inorganic Breath. I rapidly had shortages of food and consumer goods and my empire broke down in 6 years. Is my build really bad or is this trait garbage?

Here is my build if you want to try it:

Origin: Knights of the Toxic God

Government: Imperial
- Xenophile
- Fanatic Materialist

Civics:
- Relentless Industrialists
- Mutagenic Spas

Traits:
- Inorganic Breath
- Noxious
- Wasteful
- Fleeting

The trait is fine. This empire can work, too.
So, if neither trait nor empire are a problem, then the problem is...well, you know what (or who) the problem is in this.
Look at all those negative modifiers by choosing those traits and civics - and then just play according to them. A breakdown in 6 years due to unhappyness isn't the fault of the game. Be more observant to what is killing you.

IIRC from watching the info about the new traits, if you start with the Knights origin you need to immediately go in and reduce spending on the project otherwise it will destroy your early economy. The way the origin works is you basically fund a project and the more you put into it the faster things happen, but the default starting point for the project is too high to sustain.

But yes, Inorganic Breath is a terrible trait and likely contributed as well. +50% pop upkeep is massive early game.

Well I know what is killing me. Lack of food and consumer goods resulting in shortages, breaking down my economy and destroying stability. I tried making more food and artisan buildings with my (very limited) minerals, but it wasn't enough. I'm trying again by limiting my pop upkeep and consumption in other places from the beginning. But seriously, try it yourself. It shouldn't be that much of a challenge at the start of the game.
4 hours into release you know more than most, since well it just came out. Those benefits come with negatives. And gotta find ways to work around them, or reduce those negative traits.

+50% Pop Upkeep is pretty ridiculous, you have to go authoritarian immediately just for the Stratified Economy living standard but dial it up to Slaver Guilds if you still have issues.
Noxious is also another detriment with its -30% max habitability as it reduced the growth, happiness and ressource output on your capital by a good chunk. Together with inorganic breath and the origin the start might become a bit more challenging.

unity is what you go for .

i balanced very carefull my deficits on the market , but as a trade had my first ascension perk in year 5. you start with over 50 unity per month from Knights of the Toxic God alone

Your build is garbage

Inorganic Breath +50 Upkeep

Noxious - 70% habitability on Your capital, another +15% upkeep and -15% pop growth

Knights of the Toxic God Origin - Taxes your economy.

Your Traits + Origin make your early game economy an absolute disaster.


Mega-corp, Trade Empire turns Knights of the Toxic God Origin into easy mode, You start the game with trade habitat which is very nice
I just started a game with Knight of the Toxic God and it is nearly unplayable. Very little resource income and negative credits on day one.

and i have 3 ascension perks with it by year 28
Started a Knights game and day 1 i'm in the negatives. Nearly ran out of food. Stopped spending on toxic god quest, causing massive unpopularity. currently at 47% stability -9 amenities and making -9 food and consumer goods despite civilian economy.
I feel like I have to min-max my civics just to have a chance.
Inorganic breath is definitely not something I will pick again as a starting trait. Maybe mid game with gene editing.
You have Noxious which pretty much reduce your habitability on your own homeworld to 70. Inorganic breath with its 50% pop upkeep AND you put wasteful on top of that. Then you have the Knights which reduces your energy and alloy output to fund the quest.

This is pretty much the LEAST efficient empire I've ever seen.
