Inner political events?
Last time I played, (like a year ago or so), I remember having constant pop ups about inner political events in my empire. People protesting on the streets, new art movements, etc. Things happening.

This time around... nothing.
Have they removed this? Or am I remembering things wrong? Or have I simply not taken the right ethics and empire traits for something like this to happen this time?

Internal Political Events are rare, you definitely won't get them all the time. What you might be confusing them with is colony events that can happen within a decade or so after colonizing a new planet. Some of them are themed around politics, or societal shifts. If you don't colonize a lot of planets, you'll not get many of them.

But perhaps you were just using a mod for it? There are some pretty good ones that add more stuff that happens internally.

So maybe I just got lucky then.
Didn't use any mods, so I'm sure it had to be that. Unless PDX changed the frequency to be more rare, as to not have too many of the same events pop up.
Carnival Protesters,
a random event chain where you got to do absurd things for absurd "rewards".
sounds like Rise of the Manifesti event chain https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Rise_of_the_Manifesti
i hate it and always try to drop it as soon as possible to remove -30% pop resource output and so i do not have to deal with stupid Manifesti faction
