Machine/cybernetic ascension question
When I do either of these ascensions does my fleet change to a new ship set eg machine age ship sets or do I have to select those from the beginning? same question for non machine age portraits

Shipsets don't change midgame.
IIRC you can select your machine portrait when you do a synthetic ascension starting as organic. Other than that I'm not sure.
