1) Initial phase (promise). Last for 40 years (not sure you can shorten that). During this time expand as much as possible because settling colonies, winning wars, vassalizing etc will give you more bonuses. Also the the ethics specific agendas will give you extra benefits as well.
2) After promise is finished you can select if you want to go imperial or not (only done that).
3) Next phase will start a bit after that and those opposing you will start to rise. When it has reached end you have the option what to do, think there are 3 choices and I chose to crack down on them. Think this phase starts with your heir dying and you become paranoid and get a negative trait.
4) Next phase dissident activity will increase. Some planets if they have opposing strong faction will get a planet designation. All planets with this designation will revolt against you in the end. There is a planet decision which will remove that and make the planet loyal so do this with all your good planets.
There is a council agenda which will end this phase. End result will be the same but you don't have to go through lowered stability.
5) When this is finished tyou have the option to let the rebels win and ethics will shift to egalaitarian. Not sure what will happen if you choose that (Broken rule situation), or you could oppose them and civil war will start.
6) After you have defeated the rebels you rule will continue, Until you get "The fall" situation where you are dying. You can choose to make you immortal. If you have finished ascension path then result depends on wyou ascension (I did synthetic). Different bonuses and cost with each alternative. If you haven't finished ascension path then there are soem other options to keep him alive (or let him die).
Not sure if I have remembered it correct but someone else maybe can correct me.
Also make sure you have saved up some unity, gold and influence because those might be used for events which happpens. Suppress opposing factions.
The Fall still happens - if you go genetic ascension you get to use clones for her at the cost of 1000 power and food, plus 100 food monthly - quite reasonable compared to alternatives, though I don't know if it increases yet.
In this case the leader also becomes obsessed with genetic perfection, giving you one extra species mod point and a reduced cost of modification projects (I think -10%), but also -15% pop growth. Of course if you really want growth at that point you can engineer it and breed like rabbits.
