Ship energy maintenance bug, or feature?
I haven't had any ships for over a year and am still losing large amounts of energy to pay for ship upkeep. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

Did you take the Eternal Vigilance ascension perk? Check your starbases; chances are it's spammed Defense Platforms on every outpost in your empire.
Considering that i see what looks like defense stations around that starbase of yours i am going to assume the "eternal vigilance" ascension perk and the upkeep you are paying is like a thousand defense platforms or something (and yes, defensive platforms falls under ships in the tooltip you have up).

Note that you can change the behavior of the ascension perk in your goverment policies (turn the auto defensive platforms off or change it to only bastions).

Ah yeah. It's the vigilance perk, I didn't realise they spammed platforms by default, (and count as ships). Thanks for the answers.

Wow, the first question since 4.0 release that actually turned out to not be a bug. Congrats all!
This has been asked numerous times since 4.0 unfortunately. They should make platforms a separate entry in the upkeep.

for me it's still a problem. at first it was the eternal vigilance policy. i won't say what i think about activating something that builds something even if you are in the negative. completly dumb. deleting all plattforms helped a bit. but still the ships used 3k of energy. i deleted all fleets and still have to pay 2k ship upkeep. i think it is a bug.

Could be, its not impossible or anything. Haven't ran into that one yet if that is the case.

The behemoth has a large upkeep unless i am mistaken, but i think that was mostly food.

Did you look at outposts as well?

To explain what Elite wrote further: They changed it recently but before it also added defensive platforms to outposts (not starbases), check systems even if they don't have a starbase and see if that is the issue.
