They later terminated the original developer of Plants vs. Zombies when he objected to microtransactions that influenced gameplay (pay to win) being introduced to the in-game store.
If you want a game set within the Plants vs. Zombies universe, you'll need to contact EA. If you're looking for the creator of the original game, you're looking for Jason Kapalka, I believe.

Call it a franchise if you prefer. As in all things EA touches, the Plants vs. Zombies brand is being milked until its udders catch fire and all that emerges is mummy dust.
I tried to make an April 1st joke, but failed.
The current devs are babies as well. They threw a fit after not being able to deal with the criticism that Battle for Neighbourville received and said they will never make another FPS in response. One can just hope the franchise is being sold to someone worthy.
