Verify file integrity through steam.

Right-click the game in your library -> Properties -> Game Files.

Installation is the responsibility of Steam, not the game itself. You could try restarting the client, or try using another folder.

this has never happened with any other game though
I also already restarted the client since clearing download cache forces you to restart the client

Have you checked if you're having similar problems with any other games right now?

YES. I have no issues with any other game. Only Stellaris has EVER had this problem.
Your hard drive is likely failing and needs replaced. "Disk write error" is not a normal occurrence and is a sign of something other than the game going wrong. Doesn't matter whether you're experiencing it with other games or not, as the issue gets worse you will.

was about to write this myself. Likely hardware failure. Do a hard drive checker and see if you got dead sectors.

It doesn't matter if you "had" any issues in the past, only if you have any currently with any other game or software.

Your hard drive might be in the process of failing.

If you only do the wrong stuff to trying curing your issue, then it is no surprise. So far the thread only shows you handling it wrong.
