Some of the DLCs really suck, so that's also worth pricing in to whether you want to buy the subscription. Do you want to pay in advance for content that might not be any good?
But if you're starting from scratch, last time I did the pricing math, you could go for years on the subscription before you'd pay more than you'd have paid just buying the content outright. But then you'd have to ask yourself if you think the game's got as many years left in it as you'd need to break even, and what you think you'd be left with as a subscriber if they decide to cancel support for the title.
I wouldn't personally choose subscription, but if you're just going to play for a couple years and then move on, it probably is the better value.
If you decide this is something you want to play long term then I would seriously consider buying the DLC content instead of subscription.
