Paradox's Starter Edition Price Cheeze
I just noticed something funky going on with the price of the starter edition of Stellaris. As you may know, the base game has reached a new historic discount of -90% for the Steam winter sale. However, I checked SteamDB and the same can not be said for the starter edition[steamdb.info].

I checked the history of the overall discount you get from getting the starter edition over it's individual parts, and found that, compared to the current year, previous discounts cited a greater net cost saved[web.archive.org]. $10.87 saved vs $4.87 saved both for $17.99 with the same content. So despite the great discount on the base game, the package deal discount decreased to make the starter discount no different from past sales.

Al things considered, I don't think this matters all that much for what is just a few dollars of difference. I don't know if this is a normal Steam thing either, but since I've been eyeing the Stellaris sales I thought I would bring up my observation. I just think it's kind of cheesy, since new players might see the big base game discount and want to get the starter edition with it, not knowing it's for the same price as normal sales.

I'll just get the base game.

I would not recommend the starter edition anymore regardless. Unless you're certain you're not going to buy any other DLC, the expansion subscription is by far the best value option.

Just get the base game, learn the mechanics then very carefully review all the DLCs as many are not worth the price or lacking in enjoyment. Also don't forget we have a very large workshop modding community that is great. I run with about 50 mods and have not bought any DLCs since 2019 and still very much enjoy the game as you can tell from my hours played...

I get what you're saying Forblaze, but I do not care much for the subscription. I have reasons for avoiding it, but I don't want to get into that all too much since it might derail the discussion. It's just a matter of my habits and preferences. I'm just here to let others know the price weirdness while the sale lasts, especially if they don't like the subscription either.
