Unmodded...?
Found a old reddit post about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stellaris/comments/a5ovdg/after_learning_that_precursors_spawn_in/
That said this is from 2.2.2, so it may have changed since then.
So because we both stared in the same quadrant we "race" to the precuser home system each time?
Makes sens and i never had this before.
That said, unless the AI doesn't pursue precursors, I'm pretty sure it was always just one. Because I've never had more than one precursor in the galaxy, at least in single.
Yea i have never seen the AI with a precursor world so i don't think they can trigger precursor quest chains at all.
That said the chart is from a old version so it may very well not be applicable anymore :P.
Found another post claiming that the game now seeds a couple of spots around your starting location where you can trigger precursors, the one you stumble upon first is the one it goes with (there was some interesting additions, like the zroni one only spawning on habitable worlds, so surveying all habitable worlds around your start before surveying anything else makes it more likely that you get the zroni precursor. Haven't tested it yet).
