We know what you build, so how do your name your ships?
For instance I have a 2nd gen (in my mind) Missile Boat Corvette that I need to identify quick on building....MB II MDLS2S2.
Missile Boat, 2nd Gen, Mass Driver, Laser, Shield2.
Everytime I think I got naming down, a new addition shows up and I need to redesign.
HTF (how) does everyone manage this welcome chaos?

I don't.

I just check the "auto upgrade" box so the design is kept up to date with the latest techs, & regularly send my fleets back in for upgrades to the latest designs.

I don't generally keep more than 2 ship designs for any given class, so part specific naming not really necessary. If I give them a specific name it'll be one that broadly defines their combat role rather than detailing their loadout.
I don't waste my time with this stuff.

I just let the game auto-generate ship names and update them or make separate designs accordingly.
I like to go historical or job-related --> that triggers my memory just by seeing the names. My 'Wasp' and 'Hornet' light CV's come from that, as does my 'Aegis' class PD designs. If I see 'Ticonderoga', 'Vincennes' or 'Valley Forge' designs, I know they're cruisers. My corvette knife-fighters? Stiletto, Bowie and Seax, of course! Pretty standard for me :steamhappy:

Yep. Battle Cruisers: Lutzow, Bismark, Tirpitz, Graf Spee, Scharnhorst, etc.
Neutron for battleships with neutron launchers. Art for cruisers with neutron/ proton launchers, Carrier for Carriers, and "General" for menacing destroyers.
I keep it simple, like Amazon class for carrier cruisers and Meta class for artillery cruisers and so on in that fashion.
The auto upgrade feature works most of time. I find sometimes the game will auto generate a new design. You want specialised easily rememberable names that both act as a name and as a description of what it does... or a funny meme that helps you remember.

For example I might use 'EarlyMissile', or longshot, then let the game complete by calling it the longshot destroyer class ship, or EarlyMissile corvet class ship.

I heavily try to avoid numbers unless its a description of property of build. Example. 122mm, .50 cal, . . .
Auto upgrade is boring! Get those Roleplay muscles working!
I gotta make sure all my ships are classed correctly!
I usually use simple role markers and usually go with birds for the actual name.

The Role markers make for good shorthand in the ship designer, while the names make it easy to mentally tally what i need in a given fleet. "Oh I need 10 Sparrows, 3 Hawks, 2 Eagles..." etc.

Like MD1 - Sparrow Class. Missile Destroyer Version 1 - Sparrow.
Or ABS2 - Eagle Class. Assault BattleShip Version 2 - Eagle.

I might dip into other names, but birds are easy to list off the top of my head.
