But since this will also be Paradox type grand strategy, it likely won't have detailed unit-based combat. Which makes it different from most 4X games.
(repeated snips of attempts to explain why devolving into tangled rambles and ranting here.)
paradox, on the other hand, has been making what amounts to "Real Time 4X" (well, mostly 3X, not much explore except in EU) as their core product for a long time. and while it hasn't Always come out well, when it does, which is often, it's spectacular.
once you allow that Europa Universalis is basically "real time 4X done right", well, the only thing that's new and worth worrying about here is the world building/"in space" bit. for the game as a whole, at least. individual features may or may not live up to the hype and/or get patched in/out/rebalanced into unrecognizability. heh.
in summary: i hope this game doesn't suck, i'm fairly sure it won't suck, and if it does suck i'm going to pretty much give up on the whole genre as cursed (which i've kind of already done, i'm making an exception for this one.).
Scratch another game from my Follow list.
All Paradox games are technically real time, but they definitely don't feel like RTS. Don't write it off just yet, try checking out some of their previous games on youtube. They make probably the most indepth grand strategy games on the market.
The typical way to play Paradox games (outside of multiplayer) is to pause the game, spend however long you want to do whatever you need to do, then fast-forward until something else needs your attention.
Mechanically you could say each ingame day is a turn, albeit a very small one.
Nope, it's both Grand Strategy and 4X. The beginning part is more 4X like and the midpoint/endgame are more grand strategy-like.
i guess it is both: 4x at the beginning and gand straegy later...
and about the ral time: Paradox Style RTS are more turn based games than like other RTS, so it is ok
Exactly this, It's almost a new genre; we could call it a 2x Grand Strategy.
Was about to say the very same thing: they're not mutually exclusive.
